PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Everlez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chance Powell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Everlez might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Hotel California - The Eagels. The key to victory for Carlos Everlez has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Carlos Everlez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chance Powell!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Winston Howard and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Everlez throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Everlez throws a body punch but Powell moves out of range.
Powell misses with a double jab

and Everlez counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Everlez.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Powell keeping moving, preventing Everlez from controlling successfully.
Powell keeping full guard, as Everlez tries to pass.
Everlez passes into half guard.
Powell moves into full guard.
Powell bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Everlez's guard.
Powell trying to control the position from guard on top but Everlez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Powell cracks Everlez with a solid left hand.
Powell is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Everlez trying to keep a closed guard but Powell is proving a slippery customer.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Carlos Everlez wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Everlez gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Everlez tries to bum rush Powell with a series of wild strikes but Powell uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Everlez misses with a two punch combination.
Everlez thows a body shot but no joy.

Powell closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Everlez did well to prevent Powell getting side control.
Powell seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Powell moves into full mount! Everlez won't be happy about that!
Powell has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Powell scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Powell lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Everlez keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Everlez is breathing heavily.

Powell goes for an armbar but Everlez turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Everlez.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Powell is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Everlez sees it coming and defends easily.
Everlez is looking to improve his position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Powell thows a huge punch but Everlez dodges it nicely.

Powell is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Everlez is just riding it out for now. Powell eventually gives up the hold.
Powell passes the guard and advances to mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Powell shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Everlez as he jumps to the side.
Everlez misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Everlez has hold of Powell's hands but Powell slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Powell changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Everlez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Everlez takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Everlez can't do much from the bottom here.
Everlez is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Powell grinds an elbow into Everlez's temple.
Everlez tries to bench press Powell off him but Powell keeps the position.
Everlez is trying to work for a sweep but Powell has mounted him!
Powell breaks from Everlez's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Powell is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Everlez to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Everlez shrugs it off.
Chance Powell has got the better of the ground game so far.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Everlez is in a horrible position here. Powell smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Powell cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Chance Powell showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Powell gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Everlez has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Powell manages to break the clinch.
Powell swings for the body but Everlez moves out of range.

Powell shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Everlez is trying to defend but Powell finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Everlez tries to kick Powell off but Powell keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Everlez looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Powell connects with a nice short shot to Everlez's temple.

Powell uses his free foot to push down on Everlez's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Everlez.

Everlez is looking to improve his position but Powell isn't that keen on the idea.

Powell has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Everlez has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Powell lands a shot to the body.
Chance Powell is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Everlez is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Powell has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Powell keeps control of the position as Everlez tries to break free.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Well Powell has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
