The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thorpe shoots in for a takedown but Matrix shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Scott Thorpe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Matrix works over Thorpe's head and body with a nice combination.
It looks like Scott Thorpe has been cut.

Thorpe has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Matrix avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Matrix creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Thorpe changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Matrix fights it off and pushes away nicely.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
The fight moves into the clinch position.

Thorpe has Matrix pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Matrix manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Matrix is fighting off a takedown attempt but Thorpe is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Matrix to the mat. Matrix regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Matrix wants to get back to his feet but Thorpe is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Matrix here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Scott Thorpe's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

Matrix dips a shoulder and cracks Thorpe with a mighty uppercut! Thorpe falls back against the cage and Matrix unloads with a barrage of strikes! Thorpe is completely out with his eyes open, only supported by the cage! Save him ref! Eventually the ref decides to do his job and jumps in - Matrix screams abuse at the incompetent official before going over to celebrate with his corner. Brutal stuff!
