Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steven Fleckson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chris Mickles! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Cecil Peabody and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mickles throws a solid leg kick but Fleckson takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Mickles. Mickles misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Mickles will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Fleckson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mickles looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Mickles is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Fleckson asserts his dominance and retains side control. Fleckson throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Fleckson looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Fleckson throws a strike aimed at the side of Mickles's head but Mickles avoids it well. Mickles is trying to get back to his feet. Fleckson lands a few punches from side control. Fleckson cracks Mickles with a big right hand but Mickles just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
It looks like Chris Mickles has been cut.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fleckson lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Fleckson scores with punches from side control. Fleckson lands a decent elbow from side control. Fleckson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Fleckson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Fleckson in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
That has opened up Chris Mickles's cut even more. Mickles defending against the ground and pound. Fleckson working the ground and pound but Mickles is defending the strikes. Mickles taking a bit of punishment here - Fleckson scoring with strikes.
The cut above Chris Mickles's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fleckson throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Fleckson lands some shots froms side control. Fleckson swings around for an armbar but Mickles sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Fleckson's guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Fleckson looking to control but Mickles passes into half guard.
Mickles tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Fleckson. Fleckson wants to improve his position but Mickles is controlling well.
Fleckson is breathing heavily. It looks like Mickles is going to stand back up.
Fleckson wants to control but Mickles is keeping busy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mickles tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Fleckson actively working from the bottom here. Fleckson pushes Mickles off and gets back to his feet. Mickles drops Fleckson with a beautiful combination! Fleckson stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Mickles is looking for the KO!
Fleckson is rocked!
It looks like Steven Fleckson has been cut. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Mickles tries a head kick but it misses.
Oh Fleckson is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Fleckson get stunned by a cross and takes another one on the button. Fleckson stumbles backwards and tries to bounce back off the cage but Mickles runs in and jumps on him with a leaping lead hook that puts him out! Wow, that was highlight reel stuff! Awesome finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Chris Mickles!
