Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Odayr Shurlt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carlos Morales! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Seu Braga and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shurlt fails with a takedown attempt from distance. A looping hook to the body misses from Morales. Shurlt does a little dance to reset his feet. Morales misses with a jab, cross combination.
Shurlt stuffs the takedown. Morales shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Shurlt napping and manages to drive through into side control! Morales sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Shurlt is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Shurlt manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Morales prevents Shurlt from improving his position. Morales wants to pass to mount but Shurlt is defending the position. Morales works his way into side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shurlt tries to get back to half guard but can't. Morales decides to take the fight back to the feet. Sloppy strikes from Morales. Those never looked like landing. Morales darts in and clinches Shurlt up against the cage. Shurlt has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Morales avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Shurlt stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Morales is looking to break free of the clinch but Shurlt has double underhooks. Shurlt lands a shoulder strike.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shurlt has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Morales is trying to keep an underhook but Shurlt manages to get the takedown into half guard. Shurlt sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Morales defending well though. Shurlt lands strikes from half guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Shurlt trying to pass the guard but Morales defending well. Shurlt is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Shurlt wants to work for an arm triangle but Morales is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Morales utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Shurlt stops Morales from standing up. Shurlt throws and elbow that misses. Morales uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Shurlt's guard. Nice move by Morales! Shurlt has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Morales gets to his feet - Shurlt follows without any prompting. Sloppy strikes from Morales. Those never looked like landing. Shurlt shoots in for a takedown but Morales shows good takedown defense. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Odayr Shurlt. That's going to take a lot out of him. Morales tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Morales throws a right and a left that Shurlt avoids nicely. Morales defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Shurlt. Morales gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Shurlt working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. That's three minutes gone in the round. Shurlt drops back, looking for a kneebar! Morales looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Morales looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Morales! Shurlt is trying to improve his position. You can see the frustration on Shurlt's face as Morales controls the position. Shurlt is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Shurlt is working hard here to advance position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Morales decides to take the fight back to the feet. Shurlt jabbing away but nothing is landing. Shurlt fails with a takedown attempt. A combination from Morales does no damage. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. A punch combination from Morales misses. Morales swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Odayr Shurlt dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!
Morales gets caught napping as Shurlt dives in and scores a takedown. Morales manages to retain guard. Shurlt throws a big right hand that misses. Shurlt postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Shurlt preventing the sweep. Shurlt in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Morales pushes Shurlt off and gets back to his feet.
Shurlt fails with the takedown. Morales misses the shot to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Morales will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Shurlt shoots in and drives through. Morales sprawls well. Shurlt shoots for a double leg takedown but Morales sprawls well. He's pushed Shurlt's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Odayr Shurlt. That's going to take a lot out of him. Shurlt closes this distance looking for a takedown but Morales circles away. Shurlt drives through and clinches with Morales against the cage.
Morales tries to pull guard but Shurlt holds him up against the cage and eventually Morales drops back down to his feet.
Shurlt escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Shurlt shoots in but no luck this time. Shurlt has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
It looks like Odayr Shurlt has been cut. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Morales ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Shurlt moves away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Morales stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Morales wants it to stay on the feet. Morales swinging wildly here.
Morales throws a leg kick but Shurlt sees it coming and moves out of range. Morales throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Morales slaps away a takedown attempt from Shurlt, before circling back to the center of the mat. Morales looks to score with a jab to the body but Shurlt is just out of range. Shurlt showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Morales.
Carlos Morales seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Morales closes the distance and pushes Shurlt back into the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shurlt can't find room to land a body shot as Morales controls the action.
Shurlt lands with a left to the head. Shurlt tries for a takedown. No joy.

Odayr Shurlt is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. This has been an exciting period of action! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Shurlt slips a nice elbow through Morales's hands, connecting with Morales's forehead.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Odayr Shurlt. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Shurlt, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
