Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Drew Olbo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Travis Rory! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Olbo shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rory pinned against the cage. Rory gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Olbo shoots in for a takedown but Rory shows good takedown defense. Olbo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Drew Olbo. That's going to take a lot out of him. Olbo moves in looking to clinch but Rory pushes him off. Olbo throws a nice looking combination but Rory bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Rory doesn't manage to clinch there - Olbo circles away.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Rory crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Olbo - the referee stops the clock and Rory gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Olbo. Rory manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. Olbo throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rory's waist but Rory gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Olbo off to one side. Olbo scores with a leg kick.
Drew Olbo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rory looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Olbo changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rory tries to avoid it but Olbo manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rory to the ground. Rory escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Rory throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Rory darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Rory wants to stand but Olbo has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Olbo is staying active underneath Rory, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Olbo is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Olbo looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Olbo pushes Rory off looking to stand but Rory dives back in and keeps control.
Rory tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Olbo. Olbo is trying to get back to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Rory fails with an attempt to clinch.
Olbo connects with a looping right hand.
Olbo tries for a takedown but Rory circles away easily and Rory counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Olbo is breathing heavily. Rory is looking to take a break and control but Olbo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Rory is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Olbo is just riding it out for now. Rory eventually gives up the hold. Olbo is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Rory's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Rory's back! Rory is in bad spot here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rory trying to control but not successfully. Olbo is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Rory defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. Rory showing good submission defense here.
Olbo misses with a punch to the head. Olbo doesn't have the hooks in and Rory manages to turn into his guard.
Olbo keeping moving, preventing Rory from controlling successfully. Olbo is controlling Rory's posture. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Olbo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Olbo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rory is just riding it out for now. Olbo eventually gives up the hold. Olbo prevents Rory from improving his position. Rory is trying to maintain the position but Olbo is very close to passing his half guard. Olbo passes to full mount! Olbo with a couple of short strikes. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Drew Olbo dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Rory wants to clinch. Olbo is looking to clinch but Rory is avoiding it.
Olbo gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Olbo breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Rory shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Olbo counters with a nice uppercut. Rory keeps the fight on the outside. Olbo throws a nice head kick!
Olbo tries for a takedown but Rory circles away easily and Rory counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Rory. Olbo goes for a takedown in the clinch but Rory prevents it.
Rory has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Olbo avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Rory wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Rory looks to clinch and Olbo counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Rory! Rory in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Rory is breathing heavily. Rory keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Rory tries to hold on but Olbo pushes him away. Olbo fails to move to back control. Olbo is working hard here to advance position. Olbo stands up from mount. Strange move. Rory shoots in but no luck this time. Olbo with a lazy takedown attempt and Rory counters with a takedown into side control. Olbo gets back to half guard. Olbo is trying to stand.
Olbo is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Rory's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Rory's back! Olbo really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Rory. Olbo is looking for the choke from the back position but Rory is controlling his hands well. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Rory is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rory is trying to get back to his feet but Olbo has full control of the position and if anything, Rory has just worked his way into a worse spot. Olbo patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here? Olbo gets his hands free as Rory looks to control. Olbo is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Rory defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. Rory preventing the rear naked choke attempt from Olbo. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Olbo has his opponent's back and is working for the choke. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Olbo shoots and misses and Rory decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Olbo's guard. Olbo wants to sweep here but Rory controlling him for the moment. Olbo is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Rory has his hands clasped together but Olbo extends an breaks Rory's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Olbo.
