PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Pain Peters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sparring Partner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Peters comes into the arena with BringThe Pain blaring out of the sound system. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pain Peters!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sparring Partner!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peters misses with a looping right.
Partner is looking to clinch but Peters is avoiding it.
A big left from Partner misses.
Partner lands the left hand.
Partner lands a jab to Peters's midsection.
Peters throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Peters avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Peters stuns Partner with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Partner fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Peters manages to avoid it.
Peters shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Peters loads up on a big right hand but Partner slips the punch.
Peters stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Partner throws a series of punches but Peters avoids them all with ease.
Peters closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Peters fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Partner manages to avoid it.
Partner displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Peters throws out the jab.
Peters throws out a loose jab but Partner uses good head movement to avoid it.
Peters takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Peters throws an overhand right that lands on Partner's shoulder, as Partner tries to avoid the shot.
A slow jab from Partner misses its intended target.
Partner takes a jab right on the kisser.

Peters cracks Partner with a right hand to the side of the head.
Peters fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Partner manages to avoid it.
Pain Peters seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Partner with a hook.
Partner swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Peters doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Partner makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Partner throws a hook to the side of Peters's head but Peters sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Peters throws the left hand but Partner avoids the punch easily.
Peters throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Peters moves away from the strike by Partner.
Partner fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Partner misses with a looping left.
Nice cross by Partner.
Peters avoids the body shot from Partner.
Partner moves out of range as Peters strikes.
Partner misses with an uppercut. Peters saw that one coming.
Peters jabs Partner right on the nose. Partner blinks but takes it well.

Partner drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Peters looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Partner throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Partner won't allow Peters to sweep him here.
Peters keeping moving, preventing Partner from controlling successfully.
Peters trying to keep a closed guard but Partner is proving a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Pain Peters.
Partner uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Peters.
Partner is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Peters.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Pain Peters will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


The crowd cheers as Partner lands an impressive looking overhand right. Peters doesn't seem phased though.

Peters shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Peters was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Partner prevents Peters from taking his back.
Partner tries to hold on but Peters pushes him away.

Peters is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Partner can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Peters is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Partner is surviving well by controlling Peters's body position as best he can.
Peters tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.
Partner is trying desperately to improve position.

Partner wants to control but Peters is having none of it.
Peters wants to take his opponent's back but instead Partner manages to regain half guard.

Peters is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Partner defends it well.
Peters wants to pass the guard but Partner is defending well.

Peters looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Partner slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Peters pushing down on Partner's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Partner is looking to improve his position.
Peters is looking to advance position but Partner won't allow it.

Peters is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Partner has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Peters is working away from the top position though.

Peters seems to be working for a kimura but Partner defends the submission attempt.

Peters wants to lay and pray for a moment but Partner keeps working.

Partner actively working from the bottom here.
Peters trying to control from half guard but Partner is working away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Peters trying to work for an americana but Partner has managed to regain full guard.
Peters won't allow Partner to sweep him here.
Partner doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Peters wants to control from the top but Partner keeps moving.

Peters gets to his feet - Partner follows without any prompting.
Partner tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Peters was well out of range. Poor timing from Partner.
A big right from Peters misses.
Peters keeps the fight on the outside.
Peters swings widly with a right hand
and Partner counters with a one-two to the body.
Peters throws a big shot that misses.
Peters moves out of range as Partner strikes.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
No luck for Partner with that takedown attempt.
Partner looks to score with a jab to the body but Peters is just out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pain Peters dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Peters throws the left hand but Partner avoids the punch easily.

Partner throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Partner tries to score a power double leg takedown but Peters sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Partner somewhat.
Peters misses with a wild body shot.
Peters throws a big shot that misses.
Peters fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Partner avoids it really well and circles away.
Some wild striking there from Partner.
Peters is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Peters thows a body shot but no joy.

Partner shoots in and bounces Peters off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Partner trying to control but Peters is working from the bottom.
Partner with a flurry of punches that miss.

Partner throwing strikes from guard but Peters blocks nicely.

Partner drops back, looking for a kneebar! Peters looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Peters looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Peters!

Peters is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Partner has escaped the position, nice work there.
Partner regains half guard.

Peters is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Partner slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Peters passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Partner struggling a bit here.
Partner is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Peters wants to pass to mount but Partner is defending the position.
Pain Peters is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Peters seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Partner does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Pain Peters overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Partner is staying active underneath Peters, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Partner has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Peters is working away from the top position though.

Sparring Partner comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Peters has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
