The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oliveira rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Diaz counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Oliveira throws out a loose jab but Diaz uses good head movement to avoid it.

Oliveira lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Rodrigo Oliveira seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Oliveira falls off balance throwing a combination
and Diaz counters with a two punch combo.
Diaz uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Oliveira.

Diaz fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Oliveira is breathing heavily.
Oliveira takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Diaz's jab looks to have found its range, popping Oliveira under the eye.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Diaz throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Oliveira's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Diaz dives in looking to finish as Oliveira flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Diaz's strikes! Diaz is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Oliveira's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Oliveira was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
