Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Shinya Mishima (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Callahan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mishima comes to the ring accompanied by Super Troopers German Techno. Callahan is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Everybody Wants To Rule The World. Shinya Mishima has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shinya Mishima!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Thomas Callahan!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, William Gold and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Callahan leaves Mishima with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Callahan tries to score with a low kick but Mishima moves his leg out of the way.
Callahan dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Callahan misses with the combination.
Mishima closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Callahan lands a really nice looking cross but Mishima seems unphased.
Mishima shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Callahan but Callahan pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Callahan swings for the body but Mishima moves out of range.
Mishima misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shinya Mishima. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Callahan tests Mishima's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Callahan does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Callahan lands with a shot to the body.

Callahan ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mishima moves away.

Mishima takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Mishima tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Callahan swivels and escapes.

Mishima uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Callahan.

This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Mishima. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.

and Mishima counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Mishima.

Callahan is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mishima is controlling him.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Callahan ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mishima moves away.

and Callahan counters with a left and a right that stings Mishima.
Callahan lands a nice leg kick that just misses Mishima's sensitive parts.

Callahan is looking to chop away at Mishima's legs.

Callahan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A jab from Callahan misses.
Callahan throws a leg kick which misses Mishima's front leg but catches the back leg as Mishima tries to avoid it.
Mishima is pinned up against the ropes taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.


Mishima is rocked!

Mishima fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Callahan to the ground. Mishima is now in Callahan's guard.
Mishima is fighting to break Callahan's control of his arms but Callahan is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mishima has his foot on Callahan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Callahan works his way back into a safe position though.

Mishima has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Callahan is working away from the top position though.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Mishima is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
