Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cyril Kivel! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Lawry! The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Anthony Taglia and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lawry clinches with his opponent.
Kivel keeps control of Lawry as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Kivel is fighting off a takedown attempt but Lawry is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Kivel to the mat. Kivel regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Lawry postures up.
Lawry avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kivel had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Lawry defends it easily. Kivel looking to control.
Lawry with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Kivel looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Lawry sitting in guard here, content to control. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Lawry trying to control the position from guard on top but Kivel is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Kivel utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Lawry in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kivel not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Lawry throwing strikes from guard but Kivel blocks nicely. Lawry throws a big right hand that misses. Kivel preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Lawry slips nicely into half guard. Lawry looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Kivel with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Lawry is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Kivel working to try and regain half guard.
Kivel is breathing heavily. Lawry wants to finish this one by submission but Kivel is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Lawry. Lawry is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Kivel can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lawry trying to control but he's not successful this time. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Lawry looking to finish Kivel with some ground and pound. This is bad for Kivel! Lawry landing strikes, looking to finish!
It looks like Cyril Kivel has been cut. Lawry has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Lawry landing shots from mount.
Kivel is rocked! Lawry postures up and lands a whopping elbow - oh that's hurt Kivel bigstyle! Two more strikes land for Lawry and the fight is over!
