Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fernado Tavares (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodrigo Patino (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tavares's entrance music is All Of The Lights. A fine choice. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Fernado Tavares! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rodrigo Patino! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Daniel Franklin and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Patino swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Patino looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Patino wants to advance to full mount but Tavares doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. Patino drops back, looking for a kneebar! Tavares looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Tavares looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Tavares! Patino is looking to reverse the position. Patino manages to work his way to half guard, despite Tavares's best efforts.

Tavares has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Patino wants to sweep but no luck. Patino is trying to keep Tavares in close.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
We're going to have a standup here because Fernado Tavares wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Patino tries for a takedown but Tavares circles away easily so Tavares counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Tavares is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Patino doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Patino trying to control the position here. Patino looking to hit a scissor sweep but Tavares is one step ahead there.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Fernado Tavares. Patino shoots and misses and Tavares counters with a single leg into guard. Patino didn't expect that. Patino manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Patino looking to secure an arm triangle but Tavares defends it well. Patino controlling the position easily from mount. Tavares holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Patino tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Patino jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Tavares manages to avoid the submission attempt. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Fernado Tavares dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Patino fails with the takedown and Tavares decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Patino's guard. Tavares got a little sloppy there for a moment and Patino has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Tavares has managed to get both his arms back between Patino's legs - danger averted. Tavares is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Tavares postures up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Patino fails with the takedown and Tavares counters with a shoot takedown. Patino fights it but they end up in guard. Fernado Tavares has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rodrigo Patino. Tavares stopping the sweep attempt from Patino. Tavares is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tavares trying to control but Patino is working from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Fernado Tavares has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Patino gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Tavares to score an easy takedown into full guard. Fernado Tavares overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Patino working a defensive guard here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Patino has a closed guard, preventing Tavares from standing up. Tavares is fighting to break Patino's control of his arms but Patino is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Patino gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily so Tavares counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Patino seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Patino is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Fernado Tavares dominated that second round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Patino misses with a takedown attempt and Tavares counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Patino! Patino is working to get back to half guard.
Patino wants to control but Tavares is having none of it. Tavares content just to control the position here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Patino sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Patino has his hands clasped together around Tavares's back. He's all about the action. Tavares prevents Patino from improving his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Fernado Tavares. Tavares fails in his attempt to clinch. Tavares avoids a punch combination nicely.
Patino doesn't succeed with the takedown and Tavares counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Patino seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Tavares wants to control from the top but Patino keeps moving.

Patino throws a right hand that Tavares ducks under and follows up with a left that Tavares also avoids with ease. Rodrigo Patino is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Patino bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Patino shoots and misses and Tavares counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Tavares. Fernado Tavares has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rodrigo Patino.

and Tavares counters with a nice double leg into side control. Patino won't be happy with that.
And that's the end of the fight! Fernado Tavares showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Tavares, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
