Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jamarcus Johnson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dane Hoy! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Gregory Folan and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hoy shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Hoy's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Hoy loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Hoy trying to control but Johnson is working from the bottom. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Johnson is on top in guard.
Hoy is pulling down on Johnson's head to control his posture. Hoy's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Hoy looking for a sweep. Not yet Hoy, not yet. Johnson advances to half guard. Hoy tries to get to full guard but Johnson has control of the leg. The fighters are battling for position here. Hoy manages to regain full guard. Nice work. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Johnson missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson advances to half guard. Hoy tries to get to full guard but Johnson has control of the leg. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Johnson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hoy is just riding it out for now. Johnson eventually gives up the hold. Johnson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hoy defends it well. Johnson thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hoy's head. Johnson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hoy sees it coming and defends easily. Hoy is doing well to control the position and prevent Johnson from advancing to side control. Hoy is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Johnson is trying to work for a kimura but Hoy is defending well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Johnson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hoy sees it coming and defends easily. Hoy wants to control but Johnson is keeping busy.
Hoy is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Johnson is staying active. Hoy makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hoy. Hoy has Johnson pulled in close to control his posture. Hoy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Johnson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Hoy is tightening it up a little... Johnson has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Johnson reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Johnson taps out! nice BJJ there by Hoy!
