Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chris Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damian Pabin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chris Mendez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Damian Pabin!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Yukihiro Shimada and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez closes the distance looking to clinch
and Pabin counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Mendez thinking.
Mendez wants to clinch but Pabin slips to the side
and Pabin makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Pabin darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Mendez tries to clinch but Pabin moves away
and Pabin counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Pabin connects with a single shot there.
Mendez bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Mendez looks to land a combination. Pabin sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.


It looks like Damian Pabin has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mendez throws a right hand that misses
enabling Pabin to counter with a crisp jab.
Pabin scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Mendez takes the fight into the clinch.
Mendez is looking to break free of the clinch but Pabin has double underhooks.

Pabin breaks the clinch.
Pabin tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Mendez was well out of range. Poor timing from Pabin.
Mendez darts in trying to clinch
and Pabin counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Mendez slips a straight right by Pabin.
Pabin lands a head shot.
Damian Pabin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Mendez misses with a takedown
and Pabin counters with a left to the body.
Mendez gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Pabin counters with a one-two to the body.

and Mendez counters with a takedown into side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
You can see the frustration on Pabin's face as Mendez controls the position.
Pabin tries to bench press Mendez off him but Mendez keeps the position.
Pabin is not content to let Mendez control the position.
Pabin can't do much from the bottom here.

Mendez tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mendez has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Mendez is breathing heavily.
Pabin wants to control but Mendez postures up.
Pabin wants to get back to his feet.
Mendez is working Pabin over with some ground and pound from side control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Pabin throws Mendez to one side and escapes!
Pabin misses with a body shot
and Mendez makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Mendez closes the distance but Pabin moves to the side
and Pabin counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Mendez darts in trying to clinch
and Mendez takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pabin scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Mendez doesn't seem bothered though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Chris Mendez will probably get the nod.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Pabin throws a left and a right that both miss

and Mendez counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Pabin's guard now.
Mendez wants to pass the guard but Pabin is keeping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mendez controls from within his opponent's guard.
Mendez trying to control the position from guard on top but Pabin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Pabin manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mendez is desperately trying to improve his position but Pabin has a good base and remains in mount.
Pabin fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Pabin cracks Mendez with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Pabin wants to control the pace but Mendez is squirming around nicely.

Pabin is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Mendez can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Mendez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Pabin connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Pabin tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Mendez has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Pabin's lack of action.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Damian Pabin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Mendez wants to clinch
and Pabin counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Pabin in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.
Mendez ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Mendez shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Pabin counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Mendez takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Pabin throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Mendez counters with a body kick that stops Pabin in his tracks momentarily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Pabin misses with a body shot.
Mendez fails with the takedown
and Pabin counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

and Pabin counters with a one-two to the body.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chris Mendez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mendez closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
The crowd cheers as Pabin lands an impressive looking overhand right. Mendez doesn't seem phased though.

Pabin comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Mendez looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
The fighters circle momentarily. Pabin darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Pabin has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Chris Mendez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Mendez bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Pabin cracks Mendez with an open hand slap.
Mendez walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Pabin throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Mendez on the side of the head.
Chris Mendez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Pabin throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

and Pabin cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Damian Pabin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Pabin has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
