PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kulapu Pulaku (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ian McMillian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McMillian has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Ian McMillian has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kulapu Pulaku!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ian McMillian!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Shirou Masuda and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McMillian shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Pulaku counters with a nice double leg into side control. McMillian won't be happy with that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McMillian looks gassed!

Pulaku has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Pulaku scores with a takedown into McMillian's guard.
McMillian controls Pulaku momentarily but Pulaku frees himself.
Pulaku trying to control but McMillian is working from the bottom.
Pulaku throwing strikes from guard but McMillian blocks nicely.
Pulaku postures up in McMillian's guard and throws a big left but McMillian blocks it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McMillian can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Pulaku controls the pace.
Pulaku has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Kulapu Pulaku just wasn't active enough.
McMillian tries for a takedown but Pulaku circles away easily

and Pulaku counters with a single leg into guard. McMillian didn't expect that.

Pulaku postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
McMillian being controlled here, momentarily.

We're going to have a standup here because Kulapu Pulaku wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Pulaku throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. McMillian tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Pulaku is in McMillian's guard.
McMillian keeping moving, preventing Pulaku from controlling successfully.

Pulaku controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Pulaku knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for McMillian on the ground.

Pulaku ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Pulaku connects with a looping right hand.

Pulaku throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. McMillian tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Pulaku is in McMillian's guard.
Pulaku is looking to stand up but McMillian won't let him.

McMillian looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
McMillian has a closed guard, preventing Pulaku from standing up.

McMillian working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Pulaku has passed into half guard!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Pulaku is thwarting McMillian's attempts to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kulapu Pulaku dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Pulaku manages to get an easy takedown there - catching McMillian on his heels. He'll look to pass McMillian's guard now, I'm sure.

Pulaku is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! McMillian is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! McMillian has escaped and now he's on top!

Pulaku looking for a guillotine here but McMillian defends easily.
Pulaku can't keep his opponent in guard - McMillian advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Pulaku wants to control but McMillian is keeping busy and won't allow it.
McMillian wants to control but Pulaku is keeping him busy.
Kulapu Pulaku overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

McMillian in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Pulaku tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from McMillian!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:47 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ian McMillian!
