Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Royce Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aleksandr Fedorov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Aleksandr Fedorov!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Taro Takaoka and Kenichi Hosakawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie shoots in for a double leg but Fedorov sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Fedorov avoids a punch combination nicely.
Gracie misses with a double jab.
Fedorov feints and as Gracie raises his hands in defense, Fedorov changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Gracie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Gracie lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Fedorov circles away quickly and effectively.

Fedorov has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Gracie is trying to keep an underhook but Fedorov manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Fedorov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gracie doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gracie manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Fedorov is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Gracie is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Fedorov can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Gracie enables Fedorov to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Gracie manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
