Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Craig Owens! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Roberto Godoi! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Stewart Dunkirk and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Owens throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Godoi. Owens wants to clinch. Owens cracks Godoi with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Owens closes the distance looking to clinch and Godoi counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Godoi. Owens wants to stand but Godoi is controlling the position. Godoi controls the pace of the fight for a moment. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Godoi gets to his feet - Owens follows without any prompting. Godoi dives in and grabs Owens's left leg, looking for a takedown. Owens pushes down on Godoi's head and hops out. Craig Owens seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Owens looks to clinch so Godoi counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Godoi is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Godoi trying to control the position from guard on top but Owens is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's one minute gone in the round. Owens really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Godoi stops Owens from standing up. Owens on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Owens tries to get out of the position. Godoi slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Roberto Godoi has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Owens closes the distance but Godoi moves to the side so Godoi counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Godoi working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Godoi is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Godoi prevents Owens from getting back to his feet. Owens is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Godoi forces his way into half guard. Godoi wants to take a breather but Owens is having none of it. Godoi seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Owens is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
