PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Justin Eaton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dietrich Wolfen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Justin Eaton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dietrich Wolfen!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Ian Loll and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wolfen fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
A nice inside leg kick there by Eaton. That's going to slow Wolfen down.
Eaton thuds his shin into the meat of Wolfen's side.
Eaton doesn't manage to clinch there - Wolfen circles away.

Eaton scores a takedown into full mount!
Eaton throwing strikes here but Wolfen is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Eaton has hold of Wolfen's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Wolfen manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Wolfen keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Wolfen can do anything to dispel that myth.
Eaton manages to capitalize on a mistake by Wolfen to take his back!

Wolfen rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Eaton is trying to control. Wolfen wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Eaton throws an elbow but Wolfen slips to the side and avoids it well.

Wolfen throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
No luck for Eaton with that takedown attempt.
Eaton wants to clinch up but Wolfen keeps it at a distance.
Eaton shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Wolfen as he avoids it easily.
Wolfen shoots in for a takedown but Eaton shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Eaton shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Wolfen defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Justin Eaton. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Wolfen has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Eaton is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Wolfen ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Wolfen no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dietrich Wolfen was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Wolfen rushes Eaton and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Wolfen is on top in guard.
Wolfen is in close to Eaton's body, working some short punches and elbows.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Wolfen makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Wolfen tries to free his leg and advance position but Eaton is retaining full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Wolfen has closed the distance and engaged Eaton in a clinch.
Eaton tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Eaton really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Wolfen holds on and takes a little breather.
Wolfen manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Eaton manages to get himself to full guard.
Wolfen slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Wolfen tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Wolfen has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Wolfen stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Eaton misses with a knee strike.

Wolfen manages to pull guard.
Eaton has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Wolfen looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Eaton is fending him off so far but Wolfen persists. Nope, Eaton circles away and we're back to standing.

Eaton throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Wolfen blocks it with crossed arms.
Wolfen drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Eaton gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Wolfen is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Eaton pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Wolfen lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Eaton!

Wolfen sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Wolfen is landing with some decent strikes but Eaton is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dietrich Wolfen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Wolfen gets control of Eaton's arms and successfully pulls guard. Wolfen will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Wolfen had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Eaton defends it easily.
Wolfen tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Eaton will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wolfen is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Wolfen landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Wolfen is controlling the pace.

Wolfen is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Wolfen slips a nice elbow through Eaton's hands, connecting with Eaton's forehead.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Wolfen in particular looking to stall.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Wolfen is looking to advance position but Eaton won't allow it.
Wolfen is nestled in close to Eaton, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Wolfen wants to work for an arm triangle but Eaton is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Wolfen slows the pace down in half guard.
Eaton is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Wolfen scores with a couple of nice shots.

Wolfen is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

I think Wolfen has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
