Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rick Lonzo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nalle Karhu! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lonzo tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Lonzo keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
It looks like Nalle Karhu has been cut. Karhu changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lonzo tries to avoid it but Karhu manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lonzo to the ground. Lonzo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Karhu throws a right hand that Lonzo ducks under and follows up with a left that Lonzo also avoids with ease. Nice shot by Karhu. Karhu ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Lonzo moves away. Karhu bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Karhu fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Lonzo avoids it really well and circles away. Lonzo takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Lonzo throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Karhu. Karhu shoots in looking for a takedown. Lonzo tries to sprawl out of it but Karhu keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Lonzo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Rick Lonzo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nalle Karhu. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Lonzo takes a swing at Karhu's ribcage but misses. Karhu tests Lonzo's chin there with a solid looking shot. Karhu tries to keep at a distance but Lonzo has taken the fight into the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Karhu escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Lonzo connects with a body shot. Lonzo is looking to clinch but Karhu is avoiding it.
Lonzo wants to clinch up but Karhu keeps it at a distance. Karhu tries to clinch up. Lonzo throws a hook to the side of Karhu's head but Karhu sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Karhu shoots in looking for a takedown. Lonzo tries to sprawl out of it but Karhu keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Lonzo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Lonzo shoots in for a takedown but Karhu shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Karhu throws a leg kick but Lonzo sees it coming and moves out of range. Lonzo misses with a looping left. Lonzo swats away the attempt to clinch by Karhu. Karhu scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Rick Lonzo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lonzo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Karhu tries to close the distance and clinch but Lonzo swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Karhu throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Lonzo closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Lonzo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Karhu keeps working. Karhu is looking for a sweep. Lonzo decides to take the fight back to the feet. Karhu scores with a nice body kick.
Nice shot lands for Karhu. Lonzo walks into a jab. Karhu connects with a leg kick. Lonzo looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Karhu is trying hard to land a takedown here. Lonzo sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Karhu moves out of range of the leg kick from Lonzo. Karhu rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Lonzo counters with a left and a right that stings Karhu. Karhu shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Lonzo on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Lonzo tries to get out of the position. Lonzo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Lonzo keeping moving, preventing Karhu from controlling successfully. Lonzo bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Karhu's guard. Lonzo won't allow Karhu to sweep him here. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Lonzo would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Karhu pushes a forearm under Lonzo's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Lonzo is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
