PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shane Ellis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yumi Goro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ellis comes to the cage accompanied by his Ram Muay performance. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shane Ellis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yumi Goro!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yukihiro Shimada and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Goro slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
A telegraphed right hand from Goro misses the target.
Ellis scores with a spinning back kick!
Ellis throws a series of punches but Goro avoids them all with ease.
Goro throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Ellis lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Goro looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ellis connects with a leg kick. Goro looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Ellis fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Goro shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Ellis napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Ellis wants to get back to his feet.
Goro throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Ellis wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Ellis tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Goro tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ellis parries the strikes from Goro easily there. Goro is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Ellis to escape.
Goro trying to control the action but Ellis is working from the bottom.
Goro throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Ellis controls the position for a moment.
Ellis is trying to control Goro's posture but Goro avoids it.
Ellis dodges the ground and pound from Goro.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Goro cracks Ellis with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Ellis might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Goro trying to control the action but Ellis is working from the bottom.
Goro scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Ellis to see if he's OK.
The strikes coming from Goro are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Ellis is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Goro working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Ellis tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Goro wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Goro stands up and beckons Ellis to his feet.
Ellis tries to bum rush Goro with a series of wild strikes but Goro uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Goro lands a jab to Ellis's midsection.
Shane Ellis is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Ellis takes a swing at Goro's ribcage but misses.
Ellis feints and then cracks Goro's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Goro down.

Goro gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Goro changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Ellis fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Goro checks the leg kick.
Ellis lands a jab-cross combination.
Ellis lands a nice hook to Goro's body. Goro takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ellis throws a nice looking combination but Goro bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Ellis throws a lazy head kick
and Goro counters with a nice low kick that buckles Ellis's knee momentarily.
Ellis is breathing heavily.
Ellis looks for the body kick but Goro saw that one coming.
Goro has a takedown stuffed.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Goro lands with an overhand left.


It looks like Shane Ellis has been cut.
Ellis has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Goro keeps Ellis at a distance using the push kick.
Goro uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Ellis has time to react.

Goro shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Ellis is trying to defend but Goro finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Goro is trying to control the action in half guard but Ellis is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Ellis blocking the ground and pound attempt from Goro.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Goro thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ellis's head.
Goro works his way into full mount!
Goro lands a nice shot to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yumi Goro dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Shane Ellis's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Goro explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Goro connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.


Shane Ellis's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ellis gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Goro passes Ellis's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Ellis is refusing to be controlled, as Goro sits in half guard.
Goro wants to pass to mount but Ellis is defending the position.
Yumi Goro has got the better of the ground game so far.
Goro is nestled in close to Ellis, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Goro throwing shots but Ellis is blocking nicely.
Goro scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Goro has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Goro is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Ellis!
Ellis in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jeez, Shane Ellis's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Shane Ellis's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Yumi Goro!
