PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Balaur Bondoc (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Greg Mungo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bondoc's entrance music is Pastor Troy - Vica Versa. A fine choice. Greg Mungo is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Balaur Bondoc!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Greg Mungo!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Daniel Franklin and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mungo misses with an uppercut.
Bondoc moves out of range as Mungo strikes.
Bondoc shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Mungo jabs at Bondoc's body.
Mungo fails to land with a series of punches.
Bondoc slips a jab from Mungo.
Mungo misses with a wild combination.
Mungo misses with a hook

and Bondoc holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
The referee is keeping an eye on Mungo - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Bondoc wants a takedown.
Bondoc is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Mungo gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Balaur Bondoc. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mungo has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Mungo will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Bondoc counters with a left and a right that stings Mungo.
Mungo lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Bondoc circles away quickly and effectively.

Bondoc shoots in and bounces Mungo off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Bondoc trying to control the position from guard on top but Mungo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bondoc pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mungo is keeping the position for now.
Bondoc postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

We're going to have a standup here because Balaur Bondoc wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Bondoc doesn't manage to clinch there - Mungo circles away.
Mungo misses with a looping left.

Mungo misses with a lunging right hand

and Bondoc counters by clinching up.
Bondoc can't get the takedown.
Mungo lands a hook that snaps the head of Bondoc backwards.

Mungo breaks from the clinch.
Mungo throws a jab but it's blocked by Bondoc.
Bondoc uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Mungo.
Greg Mungo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bondoc shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mungo sprawls well. Mungo wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Bondoc gets slowly back to his feet.
Mungo throws out a loose jab but Bondoc uses good head movement to avoid it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mungo tries to bum rush Bondoc with a series of wild strikes but Bondoc uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Mungo fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Bondoc manages to avoid it.
Mungo throws a hook but Bondoc blocks it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Greg Mungo will probably get the nod.
That's time! Bondoc's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Mungo swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Bondoc.
Mungo might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Bondoc displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Mungo throws out the jab.
Mungo pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Mungo wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

and Bondoc counters with a lovely shot to the body.

and Bondoc counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Bondoc gets the takedown into side control.
Bondoc working the ground and pound but Mungo is defending the strikes.
Mungo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bondoc. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Bondoc creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Bondoc is looking to take a break and control but Mungo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Mungo stops Bondoc from passing to mount.

Mungo avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Bondoc.
Bondoc is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Bondoc creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Mungo sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Bondoc has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Bondoc wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Mungo, who protects the arm well.

Bondoc is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Mungo is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

A slow jab from Mungo misses its intended target.
Mungo throws a hook but Bondoc blocks it.

Bondoc closes the distance and clinches.
A head punch on the inside from Mungo fails to land.

Mungo pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Bondoc tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mungo paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Mungo throws a right and a left that Bondoc avoids nicely.
Mungo rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Bondoc counters with a big head kick but Mungo shrugs it off.
Mungo swings widly with a right hand

and Bondoc counters with a shoot takedown. Mungo fights it but they end up in guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Bondoc thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Bondoc is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mungo can do anything to dispel that myth.

Bondoc pushes down on Mungo's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Bondoc trying to control the action but Mungo is working from the bottom.

Bondoc is trying to work for a kimura but Mungo is defending well.
Mungo wants to control but Bondoc is keeping busy.

Bondoc seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mungo does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Bondoc is trying to drag Mungo to the mat but Mungo just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Mungo lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Bondoc backwards.

Mungo manages to break the clinch.
Greg Mungo seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Mungo changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Nice uppercut lands for Mungo. That snapped Bondoc's head back.
Mungo throws a lazy right hand but Bondoc sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Bondoc misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Mungo stalks Bondoc and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Bondoc's face. Bondoc staggers backwards, shaken.
Balaur Bondoc is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mungo connects with a nice looking jab.
Bondoc ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Mungo lands with a straight right. Bondoc didn't see that one coming.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bondoc.
Mungo swinging wildly here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mungo lands with an overhand left.
Bondoc walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Mungo throws a jab but it's blocked by Bondoc.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Greg Mungo.
I think Mungo has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
