Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ted Grant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shawn Simpson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ted Grant! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Shawn Simpson! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Robert Douchet and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Grant changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Simpson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Simpson seems a little lost for a moment, as Grant dominates the positioning. Grant cracks Simpson with a big elbow. Simpson tries to improve position but can't. Grant decides to take the fight back to the feet. Simpson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Grant counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Simpson is looking to improve his position.
Grant looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Grant is keen to just control but Simpson is a slippery customer. Grant is controlling the pace.
Grant postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Simpson to stand up. This has been an exciting period of action! Simpson shoots and misses and Grant counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Simpson looks gassed! Simpson is looking for a sweep. Grant is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Simpson looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Grant knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Simpson on the ground. Grant working Simpson over with strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Grant decides to stand and escape the position. Simpson tries to clinch but Grant moves away and Grant counters with a shoot takedown. Simpson fights it but they end up in guard. Grant has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Simpson is proving hard to escape from. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Simpson can't keep his opponent in guard - Grant advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Simpson wants to improve his position but Grant is controlling well.

Grant looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Grant performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Grant is looking for a kimura but Simpson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Grant to get the leverage. Simpson tries to roll over but Grant keeps him under control. Grant tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Simpson tries to get to full guard but Grant has control of the leg. Grant is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Grant clinches with his opponent.
Grant gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Simpson.
Ted Grant has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shawn Simpson. Simpson drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Grant gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Grant ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Grant no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Grant trying to control the position here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Grant keeping full guard, as Simpson tries to pass. Grant wants to get back to his feet but Simpson is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Grant wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Simpson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Simpson is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Grant is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Grant has escaped and now he's on top! Simpson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Grant pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Simpson is keeping the position for now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Simpson has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Grant is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Simpson. Grant decides to stand back up. Simpson with a lazy takedown attempt and Grant counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Simpson has Grant pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Grant manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Simpson fails to pull guard.
Simpson has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Grant avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Simpson tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Simpson can't get the takedown.
Simpson tries for a takedown but Grant manages to get underhooks.
Simpson jumps guard but Grant stands there with Simpson around his waist. Simpson gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Simpson has a couple of punches blocked by Grant.
Grant goes for a takedown in the clinch but Simpson prevents it.
Simpson can't get the takedown.
Grant breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Grant throws the kick towards the body but Simpson avoids it. Grant closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Grant escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Grant looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Grant landing with the ground and pound. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ted Grant dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Simpson gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Grant lands a couple of digs. Simpson looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Grant passes into half guard.
Grant has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Simpson defend it? Grant steps over the head and cranks it - Simpson is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Grant!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ted Grant! Ted Grant retains his light heavyweight title!
