Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Helio Gracie! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sam Son! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Cecil Peabody and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gracie tries for a takedown but Son circles away easily and Son counters with a crisp one two that drops Gracie! Son thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Gracie to his feet! Gracie is in big trouble!
Gracie is rocked! Gracie looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Son throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Son trying to control the position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Gracie looking to pass the guard. Son trying to keep a closed guard but Gracie is proving a slippery customer.
Son wants to get back to his feet but Gracie is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie trying to control but Son is working from the bottom. Gracie is fighting to break Son's control of his arms but Son is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Sam Son wasn't active enough on the ground. Son scores with a hook. Son drops Gracie with a beautiful combination! Gracie stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Son is looking for the KO! Oh Gracie is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
It looks like Helio Gracie has been cut. No luck for Gracie with that takedown attempt. Gracie fails miserably with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Helio Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him. Son comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Gracie seems to have got his legs back now. This has been an exciting period of action! Gracie fails to land the takedown. A lazy left from Son finds it's target. Some wild striking there from Son.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Son has closed the distance and engaged Gracie in a clinch.
Gracie tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Son smiles and moves away.
Son lands a slapping body shot.
Son moves in looking to clinch but Gracie pushes him off. Gracie tries for a takedown but Son circles away easily and Son counters with a lovely straight right hand! Son takes a swing at Gracie's ribcage but misses. Son cracks Gracie with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Son has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Gracie to stand back up! BOOM! Son lands a beautiful left hook that drops Gracie. Gracie tries to recover but Son is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and Gracie lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sam Son!
