0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Edwax Mags! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Neil McKenzie! The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Taro Takaoka and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mags shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in McKenzie's guard. Mags seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. McKenzie looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Mags showing good wrestling skills to control the position. McKenzie is looking for a triangle but Mags pushes his legs off easily.
Mags is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Mags sitting in guard, not really doing much. McKenzie wants to sweep but no luck.

Edwax Mags has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. McKenzie throws a series of punches but Mags avoids them all with ease. McKenzie lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
No joy there for McKenzie, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
McKenzie gets in close and instigates a clinch. Mags turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Mags taking a breather here. McKenzie is trying to improve his position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mags controlling the position from side mount. Mags working away. You can see the frustration on McKenzie's face as Mags controls the position. McKenzie manages to work his way to half guard, despite Mags's best efforts. Mags takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
We're going to have a standup here because Edwax Mags wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. McKenzie throws a one two combo.
McKenzie looks gassed! McKenzie swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Mags looks for the body kick but McKenzie saw that one coming. McKenzie moves into the clinch. Mags gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mags showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Mags got a little sloppy there for a moment and McKenzie has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mags has managed to get both his arms back between McKenzie's legs - danger averted. Mags sitting in guard, not really doing much.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Edwax Mags just wasn't active enough. McKenzie misses with a wild combination.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Edwax Mags dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Mags closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. McKenzie quickly recovers to half guard. Mags prevents McKenzie from improving his position. Mags with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Mags has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Edwax Mags just wasn't active enough. Mags dodges the punch combination from McKenzie.
That's one minute gone in the round. McKenzie gets the takedown into side control. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. McKenzie scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Mags to see if he's OK. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. McKenzie throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Mags works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure. Mags is controlling McKenzie's position as best he can from this difficult position. McKenzie throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mags kicks McKenzie off and gets back to his feet. McKenzie closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mags to the mat! Mags manages to get full guard. Mags keeping moving, preventing McKenzie from controlling successfully. Mags working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from McKenzie. McKenzie won't allow Mags to sweep him here. Mags pulls McKenzie in close to prevent any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. McKenzie darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. McKenzie is nestled in close to Mags, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. McKenzie takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. McKenzie missing with the ground and pound from half guard. McKenzie throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

McKenzie throws a right and a left that Mags avoids nicely. Mags scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. McKenzie is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Mags trying to control the pace. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Both fighters are breathing heavily. McKenzie actively working from the bottom here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. McKenzie is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mags pulls his head out easily. Mags keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Mags looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. McKenzie is refusing to be controlled, as Mags sits in half guard. McKenzie looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Mags performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mags stops McKenzie from getting back to his feet.
Edwax Mags has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Mags closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. McKenzie is looking to reverse the position. McKenzie is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. A lull in the action here as Mags stalls from top position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McKenzie is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Mags not doing much here.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Edwax Mags. Mags will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. McKenzie rushes Mags and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. McKenzie working aggressively here.
