Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Akainu Sakazuki! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ed Nelson! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Daniel Cesar and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A big left from Nelson misses. Nelson dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Sakazuki throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Nelson throws out a loose jab but Sakazuki uses good head movement to avoid it. Nelson connects with a body shot that sends Sakazuki's belly button to the back. Sakazuki ducks under a wild hook from Nelson. Nelson throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Sakazuki changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Nelson tries to avoid it but Sakazuki manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Nelson to the ground. Nelson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Nelson misses with an uppercut. Sakazuki saw that one coming. Good standup being displayed there by Nelson as he connects with a hook. Nelson works the jab nicely. Nelson misses the jab.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nelson misses with a hook. Nelson connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Sakazuki throws a right hand that misses
and Nelson counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Sakazuki shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Nelson pinned against the cage. Nelson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Nelson defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Sakazuki. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Akainu Sakazuki. That's going to take a lot out of him. Nelson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Sakazuki moves away. Sakazuki misses with a kick to the body.
Sakazuki misses with a takedown attempt - Nelson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Nelson connects with a body shot.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nelson scores with a takedown into Sakazuki's guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Sakazuki manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Nelson throws an overhand right that lands on Sakazuki's shoulder, as Sakazuki tries to avoid the shot. Nelson waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Sakazuki. A decent looking cross lands there for Nelson. Nelson throws the left hand but Sakazuki avoids the punch easily. Sakazuki fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Nelson thows a left - swing and a miss! Nelson lands the left hand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sakazuki tries to land a front kick but Nelson steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Sakazuki motions for Nelson to come forward. Sakazuki throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. Nelson misses the body punch and Sakazuki counters with a three punch combo that has Nelson backing up. Nelson nods at Sakazuki to acknowledge the strikes. Sakazuki misses with a wild combination.
Nelson slips a jab and a cross from Sakazuki.
Nelson looks to land a right hand but Sakazuki moved out of range. Sakazuki misses with a body kick. Nelson lunges at Sakazuki with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Sakazuki's hand. Sakazuki uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Nelson.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nelson swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Sakazuki uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Nelson. Nelson pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Nelson sizes up Sakazuki with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Nelson just misses with a punch to the body.
A telegraphed right hand from Nelson misses the target. Sakazuki doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Nelson jabbing away but nothing is landing. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Nice uppercut there from Nelson. Nelson lunges at Sakazuki with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Sakazuki's hand. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ed Nelson dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Nelson throws a jab but it's blocked by Sakazuki. Sakazuki takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Sakazuki ducks under a wild hook from Nelson. Sakazuki tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Nelson was well out of range. Poor timing from Sakazuki. This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Sakazuki. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery. Sakazuki uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Nelson. Nelson swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Nelson looks to land a left hand but Sakazuki moved out of range nicely. Sakazuki goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Nelson misses with a straight left. Nelson lands a lovely overhand right. Nelson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Sakazuki moves away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nelson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Sakazuki moves away. Nelson listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Nelson throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Nelson takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Nelson takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Nelson misses with a body shot.
Sakazuki blocks a jab. Sakazuki misses with a double jab.
Nelson connects with a looping right hand.
Ed Nelson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nelson goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Sakazuki is rocked! Nelson throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Sakazuki stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Oh Sakazuki is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! This has been an exciting period of action! Nelson lands a nice shot to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Nelson looks to land a right hand but Sakazuki moved out of range. Sakazuki defending well as Nelson loads up on a big left hand. Nelson connects with a jab. Nice body punch from Nelson. Nelson cracks Sakazuki with a hook to the temple - Sakazuki is on wobbly legs here! Nelson swarms him with hook after hook, landing with each one! Sakazuki falls to the canvas face first and the referee dives in to stop the fight! Nelson wins by TKO!
