Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sheldon Smokeleaf (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Valera Nikolaev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sheldon Smokeleaf!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Dmitry Maklakov and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smokeleaf fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Nikolaev, pushing him back against the cage.
Nikolaev manages to pull guard.
Nikolaev is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Smokeleaf defends well.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smokeleaf seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Nikolaev is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Smokeleaf is aware though and is defending well.

Smokeleaf tries to stand but Nikolaev is controlling from the bottom.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Smokeleaf displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Nikolaev.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Nikolaev tries to clinch
and Smokeleaf counters with a nice uppercut.
Nikolaev closes the distance but Smokeleaf moves to the side
and Smokeleaf makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Nikolaev really felt that one!

Sheldon Smokeleaf has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Valera Nikolaev.

and Smokeleaf counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Smokeleaf digs a right hand into Nikolaev's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Nikolaev's gas tank.

Still in the clinch, Smokeleaf scores with a nice short uppercut.

Smokeleaf lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Smokeleaf breaks from the clinch.
Smokeleaf scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Smokeleaf cracks Nikolaev with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Nikolaev tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Smokeleaf pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Nikolaev is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sheldon Smokeleaf!
