Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carlo Labayen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Greg Jackson! The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jackson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Labayen was covering up waiting for the punch and Jackson finishes the takedown easily into guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Labayen can't keep his opponent in guard - Jackson advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Jackson wants to pass the guard but Labayen is defending well. Labayen has his hands clasped together around Jackson's back. He's all about the action. Jackson is trying to control. Labayen wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Labayen trying to get back to full guard but Jackson takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! Labayen tries to hold on but Jackson postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jackson controlling the position easily from mount. Jackson stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet. Carlo Labayen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Labayen scores with a head kick. Jackson tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
It looks like Greg Jackson has been cut. Labayen closes the distance and pushes Jackson back into the cage. Labayen pulls guard successfully.
Jackson controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Jackson tries to free his leg and advance position but Labayen is retaining full guard. Jackson tries to stand but Labayen is controlling from the bottom. Labayen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jackson on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jackson wants to control from the top but Labayen keeps moving. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Labayen looking for a sweep. Not yet Labayen, not yet. Jackson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Labayen is keeping the position for now.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Greg Jackson wasn't active enough on the ground. Labayen lands with a nice combination. Jackson backs away looking to recover. Jackson shoots in but no luck this time. Labayen forces Jackson back against the cage and clinches. A nice right hand lands inside from Labayen.
Jackson is rocked! Labayen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Jackson is still on wobbly legs! Can Labayen finish him? Labayen shoots and scores a devastating slam takedown! Jackson is unconscious as Labayen celebrates over his stricken foe!
