The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Silva.
Silva tries for a takedown but Fereira circles away easily

and Fereira counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fereira prevents Silva from getting back to his feet.

Fereira got a little sloppy there for a moment and Silva has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Fereira has managed to get both his arms back between Silva's legs - danger averted.
Silva is looking to stand up but Fereira isn't so interested in that idea.
Silva wants to control but Fereira passes easily into half guard.
Silva wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

It looks like Fereira might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Cristiano Fereira hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Fereira fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Silva sprawls well initially but Fereira persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Silva is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Fereira scores with a couple of nice shots.
Silva is looking to escape.
Silva is looking for a sweep. Fereira is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Fereira landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
