Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jamie Smith! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Brad Johnson! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Hugh Johnson and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson shoots in for a takedown but Smith shows good takedown defense. Smith fails with the takedown and Johnson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Smith wants to get back to his feet but Johnson is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Smith wants to sweep here but Johnson controlling him for the moment. Smith is working hard here to advance position.
That's one minute gone in the round. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Smith gets a double leg takedown into Johnson's guard. Johnson is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Smith gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Johnson.

Jamie Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brad Johnson. Johnson has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Smith uses from the top position. Smith throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Smith really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Johnson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Nice takedown defense from Smith. No joy for Johnson on that attempt. Smith shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Johnson napping and manages to drive through into side control! Smith throwing shots but missing, from side control. Smith misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Smith throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Smith is looking to take a break and control but Johnson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Johnson pushes Smith away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Smith gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Johnson looks gassed!

He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Johnson pulls Smith into guard.
Smith trying to control but Johnson is working from the bottom. Smith prevents Johnson from getting back to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Brad Johnson dominated that round. That's time! Smith's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Johnson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Smith counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Johnson! Smith trying to control but he's not successful this time. Smith dominating with strikes here. Smith sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Smith goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Johnson turns into him and now he's in Smith's guard.
Smith wants to stand but Johnson is controlling the position. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Smith has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Johnson has managed to get both his arms back between Smith's legs - danger averted. Smith will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Johnson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Smith is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Johnson defends well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Johnson controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Smith with a lazy takedown attempt and Johnson counters with a takedown into side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Smith looks to move to half guard but instead Johnson has passed into mount! Damn! Johnson sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Johnson's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Brad Johnson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Brad Johnson. Smith keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Johnson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. You can see the frustration on Smith's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Smith is trying to work for a sweep but Johnson has mounted him! Jamie Smith has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Smith is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Johnson controlling from mount.
And that's the end of the fight! Brad Johnson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Johnson winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
