PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Leonardo Coutinho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Curry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Coutinho kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Numb. Curry has chosen this fire burns as his entrance music. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Leonardo Coutinho!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dave Curry!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Mauricio Rocha and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coutinho shoots in but no luck this time.

Curry gets caught flat footed, as Coutinho shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Curry looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Coutinho decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Curry, up you get!
Curry fails with the takedown

and Coutinho counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Coutinho.
Curry not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Coutinho works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Curry is trying to get back to full guard.
Curry wants to control but Coutinho is keeping busy.

Coutinho postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Curry to stand up.

Coutinho drives through and clinches with Curry against the cage.

Curry thows a big elbow that misses.
Curry wants to stand but Coutinho is controlling his posture from full guard.

Curry sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Coutinho's guard.
Coutinho slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Curry trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Coutinho lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Curry!

Coutinho looks to land a strike but Curry avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Coutinho drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Curry dives on top into guard.

Coutinho is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Coutinho is looking for a triangle but Curry pushes his legs off easily.

Coutinho manages to escape and get back to his feet.

and Curry counters with a shoot takedown. Coutinho fights it but they end up in guard.

Coutinho had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Curry is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Coutinho Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Curry's back instead.
Curry tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Coutinho has control of Curry's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Curry regains control of the situation pretty easily.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Curry digs a good body shot into Coutinho's ribs.

Curry takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Curry has control of Coutinho's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Coutinho regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Curry wants to finish this one by submission but Coutinho is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Curry.

Curry goes for an armbar but Coutinho turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Coutinho.
Coutinho slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Coutinho wants to pass the guard but Curry is defending well.

Curry is refusing to be controlled, as Coutinho sits in half guard.

Curry is looking for a sweep. Coutinho is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Curry is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Coutinho pulls his head out easily.
Coutinho frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Coutinho punishing his opponent with strikes.
Curry stops Coutinho from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
Coutinho takes Curry's back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Leonardo Coutinho will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Coutinho drops back, looking for a kneebar! Curry looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Curry looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Curry!

Dave Curry comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Coutinho has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
