Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hugo Gracie! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Scuba Steves! The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Robert Douchet and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gracie shoots in looking for a takedown but Steves manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Gracie's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Gracie throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Steves tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Gracie is in Steves's guard. Gracie wants to pass the guard but Steves is keeping the position. Steves is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Gracie looking to sit in guard and control but Steves gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Steves avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Gracie escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Steves gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Gracie is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Gracie keeping moving, preventing Steves from controlling successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Steves wants to stand but Gracie has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Steves tries to free his leg and advance position but Gracie is retaining full guard. Steves with a flurry of punches that miss. Steves with a flurry of punches that miss. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Steves accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Gracie working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Steves doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Steves manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Gracie throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Steves escapes and throws Gracie's legs to the side, diving into side control! Gracie is breathing heavily. Gracie is working to avoid the ground and pound but Steves connects with a decent elbow. Gracie parries the strikes from Steves easily there. Steves is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Gracie to escape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Steves has hold of Gracie's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Gracie seems comfortable defending it but Steves has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Gracie is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Gracie is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Steves couldn't care less - he's delighted!
