Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rick Piper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Quincy Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rick Piper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Quincy Jones!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Eliza Hachem and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones throws a hook but Piper avoids it easily.
Nice shot lands for Piper.
The fighters circling - Jones throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Jones rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Piper counters with a nice double leg into guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Piper trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Piper postures up in Jones's guard and throws a big left but Jones blocks it.
Piper throws a big right hand that misses.

Piper lands a couple of digs.
Piper is looking to work some ground and pound but Jones has wrist control.
Jones wants to stand and escape but Piper is having none of it.
Piper trying to control the position from guard on top but Jones is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Piper accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Piper looking to sit in guard and control but Jones gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Jones is looking to advance position but Piper has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Jones in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

Piper is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Jones has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Jones!

Piper is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jones is aware though and is defending well.

Piper really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Jones tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jones has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Jones is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Piper has escaped the position, nice work there.
Piper is trying to control Jones's posture but Jones avoids it.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Piper gets back to half guard.
Piper gets back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Nice jab there from Jones.
Jones fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Piper manages to avoid it.
Jones works the jab nicely.
Jones throws a jab when Piper was well out of range.
Piper slips under a jab from Jones.
Jones misses the jab.
Piper has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Piper there as he acknowledges the shot.
Jones lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Piper circles away quickly and effectively.
Piper closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jones circles away.
Piper tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jones sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Piper somewhat.

Piper shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rick Piper. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Piper throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Jones was covering up waiting for the punch and Piper finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Jones looking for a sweep. Not yet Jones, not yet.

Jones is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Piper defends well.
Piper slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Piper is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Jones knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Piper is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jones is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Piper throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Jones works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

Piper is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jones is just riding it out for now. Piper eventually gives up the hold.

Piper is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Jones has managed to free his arm - good work.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jones regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Piper.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Quincy Jones will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Jones might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Piper tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jones sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Piper somewhat.

Piper throws a hook to the side of Jones's head but Jones sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Jones uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Piper has time to react.

Jones is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Piper pulls his head out easily.

Jones has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Piper can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Jones is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
