Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Odayr Shurlt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Aleksandr Progbeniak! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Emerson Jorge and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shurlt shoots in but Progbeniak avoids the takedown attempt easily. Progbeniak shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Progbeniak was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Shurlt is squirming around, avoiding Progbeniak's attempts to control the action. Progbeniak goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Shurlt turns into him and now he's in Progbeniak's guard.
Progbeniak is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Progbeniak avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Shurlt slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Shurlt lands a couple of elbows.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shurlt loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Shurlt is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Shurlt won't allow Progbeniak to sweep him here. Shurlt postures up in Progbeniak's guard and throws a big left but Progbeniak blocks it. Shurlt working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Shurlt keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Progbeniak's head. Shurlt thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Shurlt pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Progbeniak is keeping the position for now. Progbeniak escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Shurlt gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Shurlt stands up from guard. Let's bang! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Progbeniak lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Shurlt circles away quickly and effectively. Progbeniak throws a looping overhand right but Shurlt ducks down to avoid it. Progbeniak has his takedown stuffed and Shurlt counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shurlt prevents Progbeniak from standing back up.
Shurlt lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Progbeniak avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Shurlt. Shurlt winds up and cracks Progbeniak with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Shurlt looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shurlt missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Shurlt thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Shurlt is working for a submission of some sort.
Shurlt is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Shurlt throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Progbeniak is refusing to be controlled, as Shurlt sits in half guard. Shurlt thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Shurlt scoring with strikes to the body and head. Shurlt is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Ground and pound from Shurlt. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Progbeniak looking for submissions from an awkward position here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Odayr Shurlt dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Progbeniak fails with the takedown. Shurlt has a takedown stuffed. Shurlt shoots in and drives through. Progbeniak sprawls well. Progbeniak shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Shurlt pinned against the cage. Shurlt gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Progbeniak tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Progbeniak leaves Shurlt with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Odayr Shurlt. That's going to take a lot out of him. Progbeniak stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Progbeniak wants it to stay on the feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Progbeniak with a lazy takedown attempt and Shurlt counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Progbeniak! Shurlt raining down shots from the mount! Shurlt has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Shurlt looking to finish Progbeniak with some ground and pound. This is bad for Progbeniak! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Progbeniak is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Shurlt jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Progbeniak is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Progbeniak and Shurlt has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Progbeniak takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Odayr Shurlt overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Progbeniak wants to get back to his feet. Shurlt wants to control but Progbeniak is keeping him busy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shurlt throws a strike aimed at the side of Progbeniak's head but Progbeniak avoids it well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Shurlt working the ground and pound from side control. Check out the look on Shurlt's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Shurlt is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Progbeniak knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Progbeniak is looking to reverse the position. Progbeniak taking a bit of punishment here - Shurlt scoring with strikes. Progbeniak gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Shurlt missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are battling for position here. Progbeniak manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Shurlt might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Shurlt cracks Progbeniak with a solid left hand. Shurlt slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Progbeniak tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Shurlt presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Progbeniak is breathing heavily. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Shurlt cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Shurlt is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Progbeniak can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

It looks like Aleksandr Progbeniak has been cut. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Progbeniak bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Shurlt wants to stand but Progbeniak is controlling the position.

Progbeniak shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Shurlt but Shurlt pushes him off and we're back to square one. Progbeniak gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Shurlt to score an easy takedown into full guard. Progbeniak avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Shurlt trying to control but Progbeniak is working from the bottom. Progbeniak looking to hit a scissor sweep but Shurlt is one step ahead there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shurlt in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Shurlt throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Shurlt tries to free his leg and advance position but Progbeniak is retaining full guard. Shurlt is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Progbeniak can do to turn this around? Progbeniak pushes Shurlt off and gets back to his feet.

Shurlt bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Progbeniak is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Shurlt asserts his dominance and retains side control. Odayr Shurlt is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Shurlt swings around for an armbar but Progbeniak sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Shurlt's guard. Aleksandr Progbeniak has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Shurlt preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
And that's the end of the fight! Odayr Shurlt showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Shurlt, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
