Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Igor Vandasvik! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Robert Sapp! The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, David Schapiro and Lou da Vinci.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sapp looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Sapp scoring with strikes to the body and head. Sapp really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vandasvik. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Sapp is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Sapp slips a nice elbow through Vandasvik's hands, connecting with Vandasvik's forehead. Vandasvik is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Vandasvik is breathing heavily. Sapp looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Sapp missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Sapp lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Sapp not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Sapp lands strikes from half guard. Sapp prevents Vandasvik from standing back up.
Vandasvik has hold of Sapp's hands but Sapp slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Sapp lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Sapp lands strikes from half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sapp working over Vandasvik with some ground and pound. Vandasvik looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Sapp working the head and body with strikes. Sapp winds up and cracks Vandasvik with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Sapp looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Vandasvik with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Sapp working over Vandasvik with some ground and pound. Vandasvik looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Vandasvik wants to get back to full guard. Vandasvik is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Sapp pulls his head out easily. Vandasvik taking some punishment here, with Sapp in his half guard. Vandasvik moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Sapp prevents Vandasvik from getting back to his feet. Sapp is working Vandasvik over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Vandasvik throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Sapp escapes and throws Vandasvik's legs to the side, diving into side control! Vandasvik takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sapp working away. Vandasvik gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Vandasvik is looking to control Sapp's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Vandasvik avoid being mounted? Sapp trying to mount his opponent but Vandasvik defends it. Vandasvik avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Sapp. Vandasvik is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Sapp pulls his head out easily. Sapp scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Vandasvik tries to roll over but Sapp keeps him under control. Sapp stands up out of the half guard. Vandasvik shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Sapp counters with a single leg into guard. Vandasvik didn't expect that. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Sapp postures up.
Sapp slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Sapp lands a few punches from side control. Sapp working the ground and pound. Sapp scoring with punches and elbows.
Vandasvik is rocked!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sapp lands a strong strike to the head of Vandasvik. That's dazed him! Sapp looking to finish here. Vandasvik is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Sapp lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!
