PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between King Tut (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shamil Basaev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tut comes into the arena with Rember the name blaring out of the sound system. Tut has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Shamil Basaev has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, King Tut!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shamil Basaev!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Wesley Smith and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Basaev rushes Tut and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Basaev breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Basaev looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Tut misses with a takedown attempt

and Basaev counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Basaev.
Basaev lands an uppercut.
Basaev lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Basaev taking a breather.

Basaev breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Tut tries for a takedown but Basaev circles away easily

and Basaev moves into the clinch.
Basaev lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Tut is breathing heavily.
Basaev lands with a left to the head.

Basaev manages to break the clinch.

Basaev clinches up against the cage.
Basaev pushes Tut back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.

Basaev jumps guard.
Tut trying to control but Basaev is working from the bottom.
Basaev wants to stand but Tut is controlling the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Tut thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Basaev is pulling down on Tut's head to control his posture.

Tut is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Basaev is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Basaev has escaped and now he's on top!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Tut keeping full guard, as Basaev tries to pass.
Basaev really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tut. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Basaev is looking to work some ground and pound but Tut has wrist control.
Basaev not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Shamil Basaev has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Basaev drives through and clinches with Tut against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Basaev breaks from the clinch.
Some bone on bone action there as Tut checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Basaev looks to score with a jab to the body but Tut is just out of range.
Tut shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Basaev counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for King Tut. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Basaev pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Basaev clinches with his opponent.

Basaev breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Basaev moves into range and clinches up with Tut.
Basaev is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Basaev manages to break the clinch.
Tut tries for a takedown but Basaev circles away easily
and Basaev counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Basaev closes the distance and clinches.

Basaev breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A combination from Basaev does no damage.

Tut gets tackled into the cage by Basaev. Basaev maintains the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Basaev stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Basaev breaks the clinch.

Basaev takes the fight into the clinch.

Basaev breaks the clinch.
Basaev punishes Tut's body with a nice straight punch.
Basaev cracks a nice hook into Tut's ribs.

Basaev has closed the distance and engaged Tut in a clinch.

Basaev lands a hook that snaps the head of Tut backwards.

Basaev pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Basaev gets through Tut's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Basaev lands a body punch.
Basaev scores with a shoulder strike.
Basaev scores with a nice hook to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shamil Basaev dominated that round.
That's time! Tut's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

A looping hook to the body misses from Basaev. Tut does a little dance to reset his feet.
Tut ducks right into an uppercut from Basaev.


Tut is rocked!


It looks like King Tut has been cut.
Tut gets tagged by a hook that puts him to sleep! Basaev points and yells something to his unconcious foe before strutting off. Tut wakes up just in time to hear Basaev thank his coaches in the post fight interview.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Shamil Basaev!
