PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rod Quantock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Duke Gibbons (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Quantock comes to the cage accompanied by Meant to be funny, not an ad.. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Rod Quantock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Duke Gibbons!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Hugh Johnson and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Quantock on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Quantock dodges the punch combination from Gibbons.
Quantock shoots for a double leg takedown but Gibbons sprawls well. He's pushed Quantock's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Gibbons misses with a body shot.
Quantock defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gibbons.

Quantock drives through with a takedown into guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Quantock stopping the sweep attempt from Gibbons.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Rod Quantock wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Gibbons shoots for a takedown but Quantock saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Quantock throws a right hand that Gibbons ducks under and follows up with a left that Gibbons also avoids with ease.
Quantock slips a jab and a cross from Gibbons.
Gibbons stalks Quantock and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Quantock's face. Quantock staggers backwards, shaken.
Quantock closes this distance looking for a takedown but Gibbons circles away.

and Gibbons counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Quantock is breathing heavily.

Quantock avoids the head kick by Gibbons.
Gibbons scores with a one two! Quantock had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
A head kick from Gibbons lands but Quantock takes it in his stride.
Gibbons fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Quantock looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Quantock feints and as Gibbons raises his hands in defense, Quantock changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Quantock looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Gibbons pushes Quantock off and gets back to his feet.
Gibbons looks for a takedown but Quantock sprawls well.
Rod Quantock has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Duke Gibbons.

and Gibbons counters with a nice low kick that buckles Quantock's knee momentarily.
Horrible takedown by Gibbons or perhaps it was just good defense by Quantock which made him look bad.
Quantock shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gibbons pinned against the cage. Gibbons gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Quantock shoots in for a takedown but Gibbons shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Rod Quantock has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Duke Gibbons.

and Gibbons counters with a left and a right that stings Quantock.

Gibbons is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Gibbons with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Gibbons tries to work over Quantock's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Quantock is pressed up against the cage. Gibbons has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Quantock down to the mat. Quantock avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Gibbons lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Quantock circles away quickly and effectively.
Quantock shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gibbons but Gibbons pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Quantock shoots in looking for a takedown. Gibbons tries to sprawl out of it but Quantock keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gibbons manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Rod Quantock is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Nice takedown defense from Quantock. No joy for Gibbons on that attempt.

Gibbons shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Quantock defends it nicely.
Quantock rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Gibbons counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Quantock shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Gibbons regains half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Quantock prevents Gibbons from improving his position.
Quantock frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Quantock content just to control the position here.
Gibbons tries to reverse the position but Quantock maintains control.

Quantock blocks Gibbons's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Gibbons regains half guard.
Gibbons keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Quantock is keen to just control but Gibbons is a slippery customer.
Quantock is looking to advance position but Gibbons won't allow it.

Gibbons gets full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Quantock looking to sit in guard and control but Gibbons gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Gibbons is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Quantock is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Quantock has escaped and now he's on top!
Quantock stops Gibbons from standing up.

Gibbons throws his legs up looking for a submission but Quantock uses it to pass to side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gibbons wants to get back to his feet.
Duke Gibbons is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Quantock is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Gibbons has escaped the position, nice work there.
Gibbons is trying to control Quantock's posture but Quantock avoids it.

Quantock thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gibbons regains half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Duke Gibbons.
I've got Gibbons winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
