Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alan Mael ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Toney! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Yves DeLean and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mael moves in looking to clinch but Toney pushes him off. Toney lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Mael tries to clinch but Toney is having none of it. Mael blocks a head kick by Toney.
Toney shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Mael eats them both and turns towards Toney to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Toney rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mael moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Toney turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Toney fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Toney will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Toney looks to land a combination but Mael avoids it well. A punch combination from Toney misses. Toney throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Toney fails to land with a series of punches.
James Toney seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Toney lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mael circles away quickly and effectively. Mael has managed to clinch.
Mael pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Toney tries a head kick but it misses.
Toney throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Mael . Toney looks gassed! Mael gets a clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mael trying to land knees to the body.
Mael tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Toney just stands there and leans against the ropes. Toney is trying to push Mael away but Mael has him pressed against the ropes, so he's going nowhere. Toney wants to break free but Mael has control.

A battle for position here, against the ropes. Toney pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Toney throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Mael tries to clinch up. An inside leg kick from Toney misses. Toney lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Toney. Mael clinches with his opponent.
Toney escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mael tries to clinch but Toney is having none of it. Toney cracks Mael with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the ropes. Toney pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Mael back to the ropes. Toney follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Mael gets the takedown into side control. Toney taking punishment in the form of punches.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mael connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Toney some visible discomfort.
Toney being controlled for a moment. Mael has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Mael wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Toney, who protects the arm well. Mael postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Mael working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Mael trying to control the position but Toney is working away. Mael has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Toney is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Mael yanks on the arm and Toney is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Mael .
