Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shane Carwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Layfield (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carwin comes to the cage accompanied by pantera walk. Mark Layfield is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Layfield doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Carwin counters with a one-two to the body.
Nice takedown defense from Carwin. No joy for Layfield on that attempt.
Carwin falls off balance throwing a combination

and Layfield counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Carwin!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Carwin is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Layfield content just to control the position here.
Let's hope that Layfield has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Carwin really wants to buck Layfield off and get back to his feet.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Mark Layfield wasn't active enough on the ground.
Layfield shoots in looking for a takedown. Carwin tries to sprawl out of it but Layfield keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Carwin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Shane Carwin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Layfield.

Layfield fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Carwin to the ground. Layfield is now in Carwin's guard.

Layfield advances position into side control!
Layfield is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
It looks like Layfield might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Mark Layfield has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Layfield shoots for a double leg takedown but Carwin sprawls well. He's pushed Layfield's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Layfield looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Carwin is fending him off so far but Layfield persists. Nope, Carwin circles away and we're back to standing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Carwin throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Layfield shoots in and drives through. Carwin sprawls well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Layfield dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Carwin looks to land a combination but Layfield avoids it well.
Layfield shoots in for a takedown but Carwin shows good takedown defense.
Carwin tries to bum rush Layfield with a series of wild strikes but Layfield uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Carwin slaps away a takedown attempt from Layfield, before circling back to the center of the mat.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Mark Layfield hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Layfield shoots in for a double leg but Carwin sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Layfield misses with a takedown
enabling Carwin to counter with a crisp jab.
Carwin goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Carwin enables Layfield to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Carwin manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Carwin wants to get back to his feet but Layfield is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Carwin on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Carwin tries to get out of the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Mark Layfield.
Sloppy strikes from Carwin. Those never looked like landing.
Layfield fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Carwin tries to bum rush Layfield with a series of wild strikes but Layfield uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Layfield avoids a punch combination nicely.
Layfield shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Carwin as he jumps to the side.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Layfield shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Carwin as he avoids it easily.
Layfield shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Carwin but Carwin pushes him off and we're back to square one.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Layfield showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Carwin works over Layfield's head and body with a nice combination.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Layfield.
Shane Carwin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Carwin rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Layfield moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Carwin stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.


Layfield is rocked!
Carwin catches Layfield with a right, a left, a right. It's raining punches and Layfield forgot an umbrella! Another punch and he's down. This one is over!
