PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Takashi Katsumoto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pierre LePew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). LePew comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Dirty House kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Takashi Katsumoto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Pierre LePew!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, David Schapiro and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Katsumoto does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
LePew rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Katsumoto moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

LePew closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Katsumoto to the mat! Katsumoto manages to get full guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Katsumoto wants to sweep but no luck.
LePew controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
LePew forces his way into half guard.
LePew wants to control but Katsumoto is keeping him busy.
LePew tries to pass the half guard into mount. Katsumoto knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
LePew is trying to control the action in half guard but Katsumoto is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Katsumoto wants to improve his position but LePew is controlling well.

LePew passes to side control.
LePew tries to advance to mount but can't.
LePew wants to control but Katsumoto is keeping him busy.
LePew might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Katsumoto kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Katsumoto tries to improve position but can't.

Katsumoto manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Katsumoto prevents LePew from improving his position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Katsumoto trying to control the action but LePew is working from the bottom.
LePew wants to get back to full guard.
LePew keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

LePew jabs Katsumoto right on the nose. Katsumoto blinks but takes it well.
LePew stuns Katsumoto with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Katsumoto tries to land a leg kick but LePew saw it coming and moves away.
LePew connects with a good right hand that stumbles Katsumoto. Katsumoto circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A big left from LePew misses.

Katsumoto wants to land a leg kick but LePew is out of range.
LePew connects with a good right hand that stumbles Katsumoto. Katsumoto circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

LePew closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - LePew lands in his opponent's guard.
Katsumoto tries to land a sweep but no joy.
LePew trying to control but Katsumoto is working from the bottom.
LePew working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Katsumoto is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Katsumoto throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

LePew is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Katsumoto's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Katsumoto's back!

Katsumoto has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from LePew.

LePew connects with a big shot to the side of Katsumoto's head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
LePew is looking to control Katsumoto but Katsumoto is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Katsumoto is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
LePew scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Katsumoto is looking for a way out.
Katsumoto rolls, trying to escape but LePew keeps control of the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pierre LePew dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Katsumoto takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Katsumoto takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Katsumoto throws a push kick but LePew slaps the foot to one side.
LePew throws a hook to the side of Katsumoto's head but Katsumoto sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
A slow jab from LePew misses its intended target.
LePew keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
LePew misses with an uppercut. Katsumoto saw that one coming.
LePew shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Katsumoto pinned against the cage. Katsumoto gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Katsumoto plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!


It looks like Pierre LePew has been cut.
Katsumoto throws a leg kick but LePew sees it coming and moves out of range.
Katsumoto moves out of range as LePew strikes.
A head kick from Katsumoto lands but LePew takes it in his stride.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Katsumoto throws a leg kick but LePew sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Takashi Katsumoto seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A solid leg kick lands there for Katsumoto.
Katsumoto chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Katsumoto feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to LePew's calf.
Takashi Katsumoto is winning the standup battle so far.
LePew checks the leg kick nicely there.
Katsumoto fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt LePew.

Katsumoto gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Katsumoto bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in LePew's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

LePew throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Katsumoto escapes and throws LePew's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Katsumoto is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
LePew manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Katsumoto is nestled in close to LePew, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
LePew gets full guard.

Pierre LePew has got the better of the ground game so far.

That has opened up Pierre LePew's cut even more.

The cut above Pierre LePew's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Pierre LePew's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
