PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kyle Scissors (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Big Bob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Scissors comes into the arena with Paper Cut - Linkin Park blaring out of the sound system. Bob is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Oh my god.... These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kyle Scissors!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Big Bob!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, George Francis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bob throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Scissors's waist but Scissors gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bob off to one side.
Bob closes this distance looking for a takedown but Scissors circles away.
Big Bob seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Scissors doesn't manage to clinch there - Bob circles away.
Bob misses with a double jab.
Scissors looks to land a body kick but Bob moved away.
Scissors misses with a hook.
Bob drops his hands momentarily and Scissors takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Scissors connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Scissors throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Bob tries for a takedown but Scissors sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Kyle Scissors has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Big Bob.

Bob shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Bob looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bob jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Scissors manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Scissors is looking for a sweep.
Scissors is trying to control Bob's posture but Bob avoids it.

Bob goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Scissors rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Bob's guard! Nice work there by Scissors!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bob preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Bob utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Scissors distracts Bob with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Scissors is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Bob looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Bob trying to control the position.
Scissors pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Bob is keeping the position for now.
Scissors advances position into side control!

Bob gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Bob looking for submissions off his back.
Scissors moves nicely into side control.
Bob is not content to let Scissors control the position.
Bob is letting Scissors control him for a moment.
Bob takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Bob is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Bob is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Scissors advances to mount.
Scissors controlling the position easily from mount.
Bob tries to reverse the position but Scissors maintains control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Scissors controlling from the full mount.
Scissors trying to control but he's not successful this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kyle Scissors dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Bob is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Scissors.
A looping hook to the body misses from Bob. Scissors does a little dance to reset his feet.
Scissors wants to clinch.
A nice combination there by Scissors.
Scissors leaves Bob with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Scissors throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Bob fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Scissors avoids it really well and circles away.
Scissors swings for the body but Bob moves out of range.
Scissors throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Scissors throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Bob stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Bob shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Scissors as he jumps to the side.
Kyle Scissors has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Big Bob.

Scissors scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Bob is breathing heavily.
Bob taking a bit of punishment here - Scissors scoring with strikes.
Kyle Scissors overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bob is looking for a sweep. Scissors is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Scissors connects with a nice short shot to Bob's temple.
Scissors seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Scissors is looking to take a break and control but Bob is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Bob is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Scissors pulls his head out easily.

Scissors tries to pass to full mount but Bob defends it.
Scissors is trying to control the action in half guard but Bob is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Bob is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Scissors scores with a couple of nice shots.
Scissors passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Bob!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bob is looking to improve his position but Scissors isn't that keen on the idea.
Scissors controlling the position easily from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kyle Scissors dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Nice sprawl there from Scissors as Bob shoots in.

Scissors looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Bob tries to score a power double leg takedown but Scissors sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bob somewhat.

Scissors rushes Bob and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Scissors gets through Bob's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Bob manages to pull guard.
Bob takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Scissors landing some decent shots from guard.
Scissors works over Bob with some ground and pound from guard.

Scissors trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Bob escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Scissors gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Scissors controlling from the top position.
Scissors is pushing down on Bob's leg trying to pass to half guard. Bob is fighting to maintain full guard but Scissors has managed to sneak the leg through.
Scissors has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Scissors is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Scissors in particular looking to stall.

Scissors takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Scissors is nestled in close to Bob, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Bob is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Scissors scores with a couple of nice shots.
Bob wants to get back to full guard.

Scissors lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Well Scissors has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
