Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Maro Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Georg the Caliph (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Maro Santos! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Georg the Caliph! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Tiny Johnson and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Santos jabbing away but nothing is landing. the Caliph is trying hard to land a takedown here. Santos sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. the Caliph throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Santos throws a combination that misses and the Caliph counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Santos gets a clinch. Santos misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from the Caliph.

Santos misses with a short punch on the inside. Santos lands a nice knee to the body. Santos is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. the Caliph is defending well for now. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! the Caliph blocks an elbow strike from Santos.
Santos manages to pull guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Santos working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. the Caliph doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. the Caliph manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Santos looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. the Caliph avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
the Caliph is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. the Caliph trying to control but Santos is working from the bottom. the Caliph gets to his feet - Santos follows without any prompting. Santos closes the distance looking to clinch and the Caliph connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
That's two minutes gone in the round. the Caliph scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
the Caliph tries to score a power double leg takedown but Santos sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten the Caliph somewhat. Santos shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. This has been an exciting period of action! You get the feeling that the Caliph really doesn't like being in this position too much.
the Caliph is desperately trying to improve his position but Santos has a good base and remains in mount. Santos goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now the Caliph is on top in guard.
Santos escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. the Caliph gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. the Caliph wants to pass the guard but Santos is keeping the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Santos working a defensive guard but the Caliph passes into half guard.
the Caliph is figuring out what he wants to do next. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Santos has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. the Caliph is working away from the top position though. Santos is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control. Santos tries to roll over but the Caliph keeps him under control. Santos is working hard here to advance position. the Caliph seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Santos darts in and clinches the Caliph up against the cage. Santos pulls guard. Santos is trying to control the position but the Caliph postures up. the Caliph stands and throws Santos's legs to the side, diving into side control. Santos wants to control but the Caliph postures up. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. the Caliph cracks Santos with a big elbow. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. the Caliph looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Santos manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Maro Santos will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

"I don't think so" says the Caliph as he avoids it easily. the Caliph paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. the Caliph shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Santos keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Santos fails with an attempt to clinch.
Santos tries to close the distance and clinch but the Caliph swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Santos misses with an uppercut. the Caliph saw that one coming.
That's one minute gone in the round. Santos misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Maro Santos. That's going to take a lot out of him. the Caliph doesn't manage to clinch there - Santos circles away.
the Caliph works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Santos does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Maro Santos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. the Caliph keeps the fight on the outside. Santos tries to clinch but fails miserably and the Caliph connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Maro Santos is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Santos rushes the Caliph and presses him up against the cage. Santos successfully pulls guard.

Santos throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as the Caliph works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Santos wants to pass the guard but the Caliph is keeping the position. Santos trying to control but the Caliph is working from the bottom.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Maro Santos. the Caliph fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Santos ducks under a wild hook from the Caliph. Horrible takedown by Santos or perhaps it was just good defense by the Caliph which made him look bad. the Caliph misses with a double jab.

Maro Santos overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Santos accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Santos looking to sit in guard and control but the Caliph gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Santos is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Maro Santos dominated that second round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Both fighters are breathing heavily. the Caliph performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Santos won't allow the Caliph to pass to mount. the Caliph is working for a kimura but Santos is defending it quite comfortably.

The fighters are battling for position here. Santos manages to regain full guard. Nice work. the Caliph thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. the Caliph's corner is telling him to maintain position. the Caliph got a little sloppy there for a moment and Santos has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, the Caliph has managed to get both his arms back between Santos's legs - danger averted. the Caliph trying to control but Santos is working from the bottom.

He's managed to get a loose triangle. the Caliph doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. the Caliph manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Santos throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! the Caliph escapes and throws Santos's legs to the side, diving into side control! Santos is trying to escape the position but the Caliph is controlling the position. Santos tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but the Caliph wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Santos gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. the Caliph trying to control from half guard but Santos is working away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Santos is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. the Caliph is working for a submission of some sort.
Maro Santos is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Santos looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Georg the Caliph has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Santos is defending against the submission attempts here by the Caliph.

And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Georg the Caliph. I think Santos has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
