Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jim Jakes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darth Penguinus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Darth Penguinus will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 1, fighting out of New York, Jim Jakes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Darth Penguinus!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Alyssa Summers and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jakes shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Penguinus but Penguinus pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Penguinus looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Jakes shoots in but no luck this time.
A head kick misses from Jakes.
Jakes throws a right and a left that Penguinus avoids nicely.
Jakes misses with a series of wild punches.

Jakes feints and as Penguinus raises his hands in defense, Jakes changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Penguinus working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Jakes.
Jakes really is a fat lump.
Jakes is looking to work some ground and pound but Penguinus has wrist control.

Jakes decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Penguinus, up you get!
Jakes tries to bum rush Penguinus with a series of wild strikes but Penguinus uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Penguinus will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Jakes connects with a crisp jab.
Jakes tries to close the distance and clinch up but Penguinus swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Jakes is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Jakes lands a really nice looking cross but Penguinus seems unphased.

and Penguinus counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jim Jakes. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Penguinus throwing shots but Jakes is blocking nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jakes is trying to stand up here but Penguinus is controlling him well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Penguinus is controlling the pace.
Jakes tries to get to full guard but Penguinus has control of the leg.
Jakes manages to get to full guard.
Jakes is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Jakes has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Penguinus makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
An inside leg kick lands from Penguinus.
Penguinus is looking to slow Jakes down with leg kicks.
Penguinus changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jakes tries to avoid it but Penguinus manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jakes to the ground. Jakes escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Jakes shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Penguinus sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Penguinus is not content to let Jakes control the position.

Jakes wants to work for an arm triangle but Penguinus is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Jakes looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Penguinus with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Penguinus wants to improve his position but Jakes is controlling well.
Jakes scoring with strikes to the body and head.

Jakes decides to stand up.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Penguinus throws a head kick that misses

and Jakes counters with a left and a right that hurts Penguinus! He wobbles and falls to the floor - he's in big trouble! Jakes jumps into full mount!


Penguinus is rocked!
Oooooh, big shot lands for Jakes! Penguinus is hurt baaadly! Jakes is firing away with more strikes - Penguinus is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Jim Jakes!
