Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Mogul Khan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Octavio Gomes! The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, John Mangel and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Khan punishes Gomes's body with a nice straight punch. Gomes loads up on a big right hand but Khan slips the punch. Khan misses with the combination.
Khan looks to score with a jab to the body but Gomes is just out of range. Khan fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Gomes is looking to chop away at Khan's legs. Gomes throws a jab when Khan was well out of range. Gomes moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Khan darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Gomes tries to roll over but Khan keeps him under control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gomes looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Khan seems to be looking for submissions.
Khan looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Khan works his way into full mount! Khan trying to control but Gomes is having none of it. Khan looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Khan can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Gomes is looking to escape. Khan goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Gomes turns into him and now he's in Khan's guard.
Gomes makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Khan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gomes gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Khan is trying to keep Gomes in close.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gomes is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Khan has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Gomes is looking to defend but Khan has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Gomes! Khan pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Gomes taps out and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Mogul Khan!
