Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Daniel Pauling!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jamal Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Hugh Johnson and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pauling fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Johnson sprawls well initially but Pauling persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Pauling is trying to work for a kimura but Johnson is defending well.
Johnson is trying to control but can't.
Johnson tries to kick Pauling off but Pauling keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pauling moves nicely into side control.

Pauling is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Johnson has escaped the position, nice work there.

Pauling goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Johnson has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Pauling but great work by Johnson.

Johnson stands up and beckons Pauling to his feet.
Pauling scores with a nice body kick.
Johnson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Johnson throws a series of punches but Pauling avoids them all with ease.
Johnson looks gassed!
Johnson closes the distance and clinches up with Pauling, looking for a takedown. Johnson pushes Pauling against the cage but Pauling circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Pauling goes for a high kick. It partially lands.


It looks like Jamal Johnson has been cut.

Pauling scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Pauling tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Pauling has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's one minute gone in the round.

Pauling is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Johnson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Johnson manages to get back to half guard.
Pauling tries to pass the half guard into mount. Johnson knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Pauling seems to be working for a kimura but Johnson defends the submission attempt.

Pauling is working for a submission of some sort.

Pauling is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Pauling is pressing down on Johnson's thigh, looking to free his foot. Johnson is holding on for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Pauling in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Johnson tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Pauling!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Daniel Pauling!
