PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Earth Quake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Flipper Gill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Quake comes to the cage accompanied by PRODIGY - RUN WITH THE WOLVES . Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Earth Quake!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Flipper Gill!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Cecil Peabody and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gill on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Quake. Quake obviously looking to wear him down.
Quake is looking to clinch but Gill is avoiding it.
Gill with a hook.


It looks like Earth Quake has been cut.
Quake smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Gill misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Quake throws a body punch but Gill moves out of range.

Quake gets tackled into the cage by Gill. Gill maintains the clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gill is trying to break the clinch but Quake has him pressed against the cage.
Gill managing to block the knees to the body from Quake.
With the fighters up against the cage, Quake throws an elbow but misses.
Quake is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Gill is defending well for now.
Quake lands an elbow that stopped Gill in his tracks for a moment.


It looks like Flipper Gill has been cut.
Quake avoiding damage.
Gill takes a knee right on the jaw!

That's one minute gone in the round.
A frustrated look appears on Gill's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Quake connects with a nasty looking knee right to Gill's face.
Gill lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Gill gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Gill loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Quake lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Gill!
Gill is in all sorts of trouble here.
Quake content just to control the position here.
Gill tries to reverse the position but Quake maintains control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gill is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Quake controlling his opponent.
Gill is in all sorts of trouble here.

Quake takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Gill wants to hold on but Quake pushes him away.
Gill working to try and regain half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Gill is squirming around, avoiding Quake's attempts to control the action.
Quake will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Quake is trying to control. Gill wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Gill wants to control but Quake is keeping busy.
Gill is looking to improve his position.
Gill is refusing to be controlled, as Quake sits in half guard.
Gill wants to improve his position but Quake is controlling well.
Quake tries to pass to full mount but Gill defends it.
Gill is staying active underneath Quake, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Earth Quake.
Nice takedown defense from Quake. No joy for Gill on that attempt.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Quake stuffs the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Earth Quake will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Quake takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Gill misses with a takedown attempt
and Quake counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Gill avoids the body shot from Quake.

Gill clinches up with Quake and pushes him back against the cage.
Gill tries to break the clinch but Quake is controlling the position.

Gill wants the takedown. Quake is fighting it off but Gill persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Quake's guard against the cage.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Quake holds on and takes a little breather.
Quake not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gill looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Flipper Gill has got the better of the ground game so far.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gill accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Quake working a defensive guard here.

We're going to have a standup here because Earth Quake wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Quake slaps away a takedown attempt from Gill, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Quake throws a lazy right hand but Gill sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Gill shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Quake but Quake pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Earth Quake has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Flipper Gill.

Gill pushes Quake up against the cage in a clinch.
Gill wants to break free but Quake has control.
Gill takes a knee to the side of the body.
Gill is breathing heavily.
A knee to the head by Quake.
Quake trying to land knees to the body.
Quake holding his opponent close, against the cage.

Gill goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Quake blocks a body shot from Gill.
Quake lands an elbow inside that Gill shrugs off.
Quake tries to land a knee to the head but Gill blocks with his arms.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Quake is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Gill is keeping busy.
Gill is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Quake seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.

The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Earth Quake.
Nice defenses there by Quake.
Gill changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Quake tries to avoid it but Gill manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Quake to the ground. Quake escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Gill looks to land a right hand but Quake moved out of range.
Quake stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Quake wants it to stay on the feet.

Gill gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Quake takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Quake has Gill pressed against the cage, preventing Gill from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Gill digs a right hand underneath Quake's ribcage. Quake let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Gill is trying to break the clinch but Quake has him pressed against the cage.
Quake is pushing Gill up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Gill blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Gill tries to score a body lock takedown but Quake shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Quake goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Quake obliges.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Quake is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Earth Quake has scored more points in the clinch so far.
Maybe Quake would be better served going for some more strikes rather than trying to control so much.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Earth Quake will probably get the nod.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Gill fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Quake, pushing him back against the cage.
Gill digs a right hand into Quake's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Quake's gas tank.
Gill tries to break free but Quake pushes him back against the cage.

Gill turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Gill in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Quake is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Quake is letting Gill control him for a moment.
Gill is looking to take a break and control but Quake is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Quake tries to buck Gill off but Gill is having none of it.

Gill wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Quake, who protects the arm well.
Quake tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gill wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Quake trying his best to control but Gill has mounted him.
Quake really wants to buck Gill off and get back to his feet.
Gill landing punches.
Quake working to try and regain half guard.

Gill is working for a guillotine from mount but Quake frees his head quite easily.
Gill wants to control the pace but Quake is squirming around nicely.

Quake wants to control but Gill is having none of it.
Quake is desperately trying to improve his position but Gill has a good base and remains in mount.
Gill sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

BOOM! Gill connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Quake is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Gill misses with a head shot.

Gill is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Quake can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Quake is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Gill throwing strikes here but Quake is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Quake is trying to stand up.
Quake knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gill on the ground.

Quake keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Gill goes for an armbar but Quake turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Quake.

Gill working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Quake doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Quake manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Gill looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Gill wants to improve his position but instead Quake has moved into half guard.
Flipper Gill has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Earth Quake is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Quake is taking a breather. Gill says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
