Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Curtis Dodson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gray Maynard! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Franklyn Lucas and Russell Pearce.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maynard throws a solid leg kick but Dodson takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Maynard. Dodson lands an overhand right. Dodson blocks a head kick by Maynard.
Dodson uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Dodson lands an overhand right. Dodson keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Dodson fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Maynard throws a head kick but Dodson moves out of range.
Dodson lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Nice uppercut lands for Dodson. That snapped Maynard's head back.

Maynard misses with a takedown attempt - Dodson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. No luck for Maynard with that takedown attempt.

Dodson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Dodson lands in his opponent's guard. Dodson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Dodson trying to control but Maynard is working from the bottom. Dodson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Maynard is keeping the position for now. Dodson forces his way into half guard. Dodson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Maynard keeps working.

Dodson is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Dodson thowing shots but they're missing. Maynard tries to hold on but Dodson postures up. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Dodson trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Maynard is desperately trying to improve his position but Dodson has a good base and remains in mount. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Dodson trying to control but Maynard is having none of it. Maynard's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dodson leaves Maynard with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Gray Maynard is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Dodson gets a double leg takedown into Maynard's guard. Maynard is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Dodson defends well. Maynard keeping moving, preventing Dodson from controlling successfully. Dodson tries to free his leg and advance position but Maynard is retaining full guard. Dodson wants to control from the top but Maynard keeps moving. Maynard is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round. Maynard is not content to let Dodson control the position. Maynard tries to escape but Dodson is in control. Dodson is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Maynard tries to get back to half guard but can't. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Maynard gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Dodson is working for a kimura but Maynard is defending it quite comfortably.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Maynard tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. Dodson is looking to stall here but Maynard recovers full guard. Dodson stopping the sweep attempt from Maynard. Maynard is looking to stand up but Dodson isn't so interested in that idea. Maynard wants to sweep but no luck.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Maynard kicks Dodson off and gets back to his feet. Maynard throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dodson's waist but Dodson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Maynard off to one side. Maynard is breathing heavily. Dodson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Maynard to the ground. Dodson is now in Maynard's guard. Maynard has momentary wrist control but Dodson slips an elbow through the middle. Dodson trying to control the position from guard on top but Maynard is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Maynard can't keep his opponent in guard - Dodson advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Dodson is looking to take a break and control but Maynard is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Curtis Dodson dominated that second round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Maynard tries to close the distance and clinch but Dodson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Dodson connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Maynard's hands. Dodson defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Maynard. Dodson lands a glancing blow to the side of Maynard's head. Dodson pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Maynard back to the ropes. Dodson follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. Dodson cracks Maynard with an open hand slap. Maynard takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Dodson with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Maynard throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. Dodson jabs at Maynard's body.
That's one minute gone in the round. A slapping leg kick lands for Dodson.
Maynard takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Maynard drops his hands momentarily and Dodson takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Dodson connects with an inside leg kick. Maynard tries to clinch up. Good leg kick by Dodson there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Dodson thumps Maynard with a low kick. Maynard tries to close the distance and clinch but Dodson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Dodson throws a shot to the body.
Nice takedown defense from Dodson. No joy for Maynard on that attempt. Maynard takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dodson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Maynard is fending him off so far but Dodson persists. Nope, Maynard circles away and we're back to standing. Maynard fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Dodson avoids it really well and circles away. Curtis Dodson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gray Maynard. Maynard misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Maynard chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Dodson can pounce on him.
Curtis Dodson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Maynard misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Dodson scores with a body shot.
Dodson is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches. Dodson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dodson stalling. Dodson wants to take a breather but Maynard is having none of it. Curtis Dodson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Dodson is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Maynard is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Maynard wants to improve his position but Dodson is controlling well.
Dodson is keen to just control but Maynard is a slippery customer.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Curtis Dodson just wasn't active enough. Dodson scores with a jab. Maynard tries to clinch but Dodson is having none of it.

Dodson stays in close to Maynard's body and controls the position. Maynard keeping moving, preventing Dodson from controlling successfully. Maynard has his foot on Dodson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dodson works his way back into a safe position though. Dodson is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Maynard keeping moving, preventing Dodson from controlling successfully. Gray Maynard has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Dodson stands and throws Maynard's legs to the side, diving into side control.
And that's the end of the fight! Curtis Dodson showed his dominance in that final round. Well Dodson has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
