Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Grigor Borisov! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, John Weichanthal! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Vladimir Khabensky and Illya Tyunina.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Borisov throws a hook but Weichanthal blocks it. A combination from Borisov does no damage. Weichanthal fails in his attempt to clinch. Borisov paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Weichanthal avoids the body shot from Borisov.
Weichanthal gets a takedown into half guard. Weichanthal wants to free his trapped foot but Borisov is holding on for dear life with his legs. Borisov wants to control but Weichanthal is keeping busy and won't allow it. Nice strikes from Weichanthal there. Weichanthal trying to control from half guard but Borisov is working away. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Borisov wants to improve his position but Weichanthal is controlling well.

That's one minute gone in the round. Borisov avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Weichanthal. Borisov slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Weichanthal throwing strikes but missing. Borisov working for a triangle but Weichanthal defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Borisov looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Weichanthal has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Borisov to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Weichanthal is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Borisov pulls down on the head and he's put Weichanthal to sleep! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Grigor Borisov! Grigor Borisov retains his middleweight title!
