PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Alan Donald (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Vasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tony Vasquez!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Donald walks into a straight right hand from Vasquez.
A left lands for Vasquez.
Vasquez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Vasquez tries to bum rush Donald with a series of wild strikes but Donald uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Vasquez lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Donald dodges the punch combination from Vasquez.
Vasquez dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Vasquez is trying hard to land a takedown here. Donald sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Vasquez lands a really nice looking cross but Donald seems unphased.

Donald shoots for a double leg takedown but Vasquez sprawls well. He's pushed Donald's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Donald wants the takedown. Vasquez is fighting it off but Donald persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Vasquez's guard against the cage.

Donald drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Donald jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Vasquez is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Donald is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Donald changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Vasquez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Donald really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Vasquez wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

Vasquez tries to reverse the position but Donald maintains control.

Donald is working for a guillotine from mount but Vasquez frees his head quite easily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Donald jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Vasquez manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Donald is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Vasquez knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Donald wants to control but Vasquez is keeping him busy.

Donald decides to stand back up. Donald steps back and let's Vasquez get back to his feet.
Vasquez throws a right and a left that Donald avoids nicely.

Donald stands and steps away. Vasquez gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Vasquez throws a series of punches but Donald avoids them all with ease.
Donald shoots in looking for a takedown. Vasquez tries to sprawl out of it but Donald keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Vasquez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

No joy there for Vasquez, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Vasquez pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Donald back to the cage. Vasquez follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Horrible takedown by Donald or perhaps it was just good defense by Vasquez which made him look bad.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Alan Donald.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Donald, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
