Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Bjj Forthewin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Pez Whatley! The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Chris Edwards and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Whatley gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Forthewin looking to pass the guard. Forthewin not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Forthewin looking to pass the guard. Forthewin is working hard here to advance position. Whatley escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Forthewin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Forthewin stands and throws Whatley's legs to the side, diving into side control. Forthewin controlling the position. Whatley is looking for a sweep. Forthewin staying calm. Forthewin tries to move to mount but Whatley blocks the move with his legs.
That's one minute gone in the round. Forthewin is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Whatley is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Forthewin is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Whatley knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Forthewin working away. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Forthewin wants to control but Whatley is keeping him busy. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Forthewin is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Whatley will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Forthewin is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Whatley knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Whatley is trying to get back to half guard. Whatley wants to control but Forthewin postures up. Forthewin controls the position. Forthewin tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Forthewin has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Forthewin tries for a kimura but Whatley is defending well. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Whatley is trying to improve his position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Forthewin happy to just control the position for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Forthewin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Whatley keeps working. Forthewin taking a breather here. Whatley is looking to regain half guard here but Forthewin keeps moving and retains side control. Whatley being controlled for a moment.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Bjj Forthewin just wasn't active enough. Forthewin closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Forthewin avoids the strikes from the bottom by Whatley. Forthewin works to advance to full mount. Whatley defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Forthewin tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Forthewin prevents Whatley from getting the reversal. Forthewin sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Whatley keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Forthewin content just to control the position here. Forthewin seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Whatley for as long as he can get away with. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Forthewin shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Whatley is trying to defend but Forthewin finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Forthewin is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Whatley moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Whatley had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Forthewin defends it easily. Forthewin is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Forthewin trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Forthewin pushing down on Whatley's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Forthewin not doing much here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Whatley scores with a few weak punches. Forthewin works his way into full mount! Whatley working to try and regain half guard.
Forthewin sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Forthewin is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Whatley to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Whatley shrugs it off. Whatley throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Forthewin wants to take his opponent's back but Whatley doesn't allow it. Forthewin controlling from mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Forthewin wants to control the pace but Whatley is squirming around nicely.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Bjj Forthewin. Forthewin gets a takedown into half guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Still in half guard, Forthewin seems content to control. Forthewin tries to pass the half guard into mount. Whatley knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Whatley looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Forthewin trying to control the action but Whatley is working from the bottom. Forthewin content to control rather than advance. Whatley looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Whatley flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Whatley is breathing heavily. Forthewin moves into full mount! Whatley won't be happy about that! Forthewin looking to control and managing it successfully.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Forthewin wants to take his opponent's back but Whatley doesn't allow it. Forthewin controlling the pace for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Whatley is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Forthewin locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Whatley is forced to tap!
