Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Louis Cane! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Bruce Roberts! The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Sam Margolis and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Roberts cracks the inside of Cane's front leg. Roberts throws a head kick that Cane semi-blocks.
It looks like Louis Cane has been cut. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Roberts throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Cane shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Roberts as he avoids it easily. Roberts lands a leg kick that knocks Cane off balance momentarily. Cane closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Roberts to the mat! Roberts manages to get full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cane is breathing heavily. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Roberts tries to land a sweep but no joy. Roberts escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cane gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Cane slips nicely into half guard. Cane is looking for a kimura but Roberts is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Cane to get the leverage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Roberts won't allow Cane to pass to mount. Roberts wants to get back to full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cane seems to be working for a kimura but Roberts defends the submission attempt. Roberts makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Roberts. Roberts manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cane manages to get himself to full guard.
Roberts wants to pass the guard but Cane is keeping the position. Roberts looking to sit in guard and control but Cane gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cane pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Roberts is keeping the position for now. Roberts preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Roberts keeping moving, preventing Cane from controlling successfully. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Cane looking to sit in guard and control but Roberts gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Roberts must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Roberts slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cane is trying to control Roberts's posture but Roberts avoids it. The ground and pound from Roberts seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Roberts lands a few punches from side control. Roberts in side control lands a decent elbow. Cane takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Roberts connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Cane some visible discomfort.
Roberts thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Roberts looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Cane dodges the ground and pound from Roberts. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Roberts working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Bruce Roberts dominated that round. The cut man is working on Louis Cane's cut. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cane. Nice sprawl there from Roberts as Cane shoots in. Cane misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Louis Cane. That's going to take a lot out of him. Roberts with a body punch. A glancing blow. Cane misses with an uppercut. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Roberts stuffs the takedown. Roberts throws a right and a left that both miss.
That's one minute gone in the round. Roberts closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Cane quickly recovers to half guard. Cane is looking to improve his position.
Roberts tries to pass the half guard into mount. Cane knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Cane taking some punishment here, with Roberts in his half guard. Roberts is trying to control. Cane wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Roberts working the head and body with strikes. Cane is trying to control but can't.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Roberts throwing shots but Cane is blocking nicely. Roberts thows a huge punch but Cane dodges it nicely.
Roberts wants to advance to full mount but Cane doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Roberts is looking to work some ground and pound but Cane has wrist control. Cane avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Cane keeping full guard, as Roberts tries to pass. Roberts postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Roberts throwing strikes from guard but Cane blocks nicely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Roberts scoring with some ground and pound. Cane has momentary wrist control but Roberts slips an elbow through the middle. Roberts scoring with some ground and pound. Roberts stands and throws Cane's legs to the side, diving into side control. Roberts in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Roberts throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Cane works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Roberts throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Roberts passes to side control. Roberts is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Cane knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Roberts is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Cane has escaped the position, nice work there. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Bruce Roberts showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Louis Cane's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Roberts closes the distance and clinches. Roberts lands a shot to the body. Roberts stalling in the clinch.
Cane is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Roberts gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Roberts with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Cane is trying to drag Roberts to the mat but Roberts just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Both fighters are breathing heavily. A nice glancing elbow lands by Roberts. Roberts has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Roberts lands an elbow inside that Cane shrugs off. Roberts landing knees to the body.
