The judges for this bout are James Glass, James Ackerman and Paul Tew.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pearl avoids the body shot from Phillips.
Phillips looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Pearl uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Phillips.
Phillips slaps away a takedown attempt from Pearl, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Phillips tries to bum rush Pearl with a series of wild strikes but Pearl uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Pearl shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Phillips but Phillips pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Phillips stuffs the takedown attempt from Pearl. Pearl gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mr Pearl. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Pearl moves into range and clinches up with Phillips.

Pearl wants the takedown. Phillips is fighting it off but Pearl persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Phillips's guard against the cage.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Phillips wants to stand and escape but Pearl is having none of it.
Phillips can't keep his opponent in guard - Pearl advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Phillips really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pearl. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Pearl is actively looking for submissions here but good counter grappling here from Phillips as he works his way to full guard.

Pearl has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Phillips's face.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pearl takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.

Phillips is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Pearl gets his way!

Pearl is persistently looking for the submission but Phillips is defending it well.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
