Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Derek Roy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jeff Thomas! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thomas cracks Roy with an open hand slap. Thomas misses with a body shot.
Thomas fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Roy manages to avoid it. Thomas swinging wildly here.
Thomas misses the shot to the body. Roy walks into a straight right hand from Thomas. Thomas feints a jab promting Roy to slip. Thomas then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Roy slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. Nice sprawl there from Thomas as Roy shoots in. Roy shoots in but Thomas avoids the takedown attempt easily. Roy shoots in and drives through. Thomas sprawls well. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Derek Roy. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Thomas connects with a right hand. Roy shakes it off.
That's one minute gone in the round. Roy fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Thomas to the ground. Roy is now in Thomas's guard. Roy is stalling in the full guard. Roy passes Thomas's left leg - he's now in half guard. Roy is figuring out what he wants to do next. Roy tries to pass to full mount but Thomas defends it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Roy works his way into side control. Roy takes a little break here. Thomas wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Thomas is trying to control Roy's posture but Roy avoids it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The referee asks Roy politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Roy prefers to stall for the moment though. Roy is working to tighten is grip on Thomas's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Thomas has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Roy is really squeezing tight and eventually Thomas passes out! Roy breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
